22nd November 2016 Match Reports

Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League saw just 2 matches this week with the postponement of the Bristol Nomads v Cwmbran Aztecs match.

The leaders of Division One, YMCA Preachers extended their lead at the top with a comfortable win over Blaenavon Aces 27-5. Without their two experienced players Piotr Sniezek and Jon Allen the Aces were no match for the Preachers who provided the player of the match in David Lloyd with 3 wins. Lloyd was very well supported by Claire Flannagan and Eric Turner with their 3 wins.

The second match in Division One saw Cwmbran Blues maintain their challenge on the leaders with a 23-15 win over Cwmbran Colts. Despite only winning 2 games the Colts competed very well throughout the match with Ben Pearce picking up 6 points. The Blues were missing 2 of their regular players but their 'borrowed' replacements managed to see them through. One of these replacements, Mark Edmunds, even managed to pick up the player of the match award with his 3 wins, just edging his team mate Roger Grech, who also had 3 wins.

In Division Two, last weeks leaders Cwmbran Dynamos have now been joined at the top by Cwmbran Panthers. The Dynamos were missing one of their regular players but still managed to edge out Cwmbran Eccentrics 17-15. The Dynamos' Alex Jones picked up his usual player of the match award with 3 wins and was well supported by Will Smith-Haddon with his 2 wins. For the Eccentrics Lincoln Alford fought hard for his 2 wins.

Cwmbran Panthers pulled level at the top after they beat Cwmbran Fellows 19-10. For the Panthers, Mike Blatchford, Howard Gaut and Chris Thomas all had 2 wins each. However, the Fellows provided the player of the match in Wayne Ford with his maximum wins including a good win over the 'higher ranked' Blatchford, revenging his defeat earlier in the season.

The final match in division two saw Cwmbran Devils defeat North Gwent Cougars 25-8, thanks to a player of the match performance from Stan Williams. He just edged out team mate Colin Scott who also had 3 wins and Sunam Rai with her 2 wins. For the Cougars Cerys Evans fought well for her 5 points.
