10th January 2017 Match Reports

After the latest round of matches in the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League, YMCA Preachers maintain a slender one point lead at the top of Division One despite losing 15-21 to Cwmbran Aztecs. For the Aztecs there were 3 wins for player of the match Tony Collins, 2 wins for Mark Edmunds and a very good win for Andrew Ryder over the higher ranked David Lloyd. Despite losing 5 matches this season, 2 more than their rivals, the Preachers consistently pick up sets to maintain a high match points average.

Cwmbran Blues continue to challenge the leaders following their latest win over Blaenavon Aces by 27-3. For the Blues there were maximum 3 wins for Roger Grech, Bhargav Uday Chandra and Mark Farrow, but it was Grech who just edged the player of the match award.

Bristol Nomads moved within 7 points of the leaders following their 23-10 win over Cwmbran Colts. The Nomads provided the player of the match in Mike Bishop with 3 wins, just edging out teammate Alex Banks, who also had 3 wins.

In Division Two, Cwmbran Panthers cemented their top position with a 26-5 win over North Gwent Cougars. For the Panthers Mike Blatchford and Yuri Cherkasenko secured maximum 3 wins but it was Blatchford who secured the player of the match award. For the Nomads there was a very good win for Garin Edwards over the higher ranked Howard Gaut.

Cwmbran Dynamos bounced back from their heavy defeat last week to the leaders with a convincing 24-9 win over Cwmbran Fellows. For the Dynamos Alex Jones picked up the player of the match award with his 3 wins. There were also 3 wins for Richard Lownsbrough including a good win over Wayne Ford in a compelling 5 set match.

The final match in Division Two saw Cwmbran Eccentrics pull off a good win over their higher placed rivals Cwmbran Devils by 16-13. The Eccentrics were indebted to Lincoln Alford with his 3 straight set wins and thereby collected the player of the match award. Alford was well supported by Matthew Powell with his 2 wins. For the Devils Colin Scott battled hard for his 2 wins.
