Eastern Valley Closed Tournament 2017 - Division Two

The Groups, Quarter-finals and Semi-Finals of the Division Two tournament was played this week. There were 14 entries split into 4 groups with the top two in each group progressing into the quarter-finals. The qualifiers to the quarter-final were as anticipated with the possible exception of Iestyn Howells who beat the higher ranked Will Smith-Haddon in his group to progress.

The Quarter-Finals saw wins for Mike Blatchford over Iestyn Howells, Lincoln Alford over Howard Gaut, Wayne Ford over Richard Lownsbrough and Alex Jones over Matthew Powell. Therefore, the top two seeds Blatchford and Jones had successfully negotiated the early rounds to reach the semi-finals.

The Semi-Finals produced the shock of the tournament with Alford beating the tournament favourite Blatchford 11-8;11-7;11-3 to reach the final. The other semi-final was always going to be a cagey affair between two evenly matched players, but it was Ford who just got the better of Jones 11-5;11-8;7-11;11-6 to reach the final.

Therefore, it will be Lincoln Alford v Wayne Ford to decide the Division Two winner with the match being played on Finals night on 28th March.
