6th March 2018 Match Reports

 The last two matches in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League were played this week with the outcome of the title being decided last week. Champions, Cwmbran Colts fought out a 16-16 draw with Cwmbran Blues with the Leagues' leading player, Lee Thomas picking up the player of the match award with maximum wins. He was supported by guest player Andrew Ryder with 1 win and 5 points. For the Blues David Lloyd and Mark Farrow each picked up 2 wins.

The other match saw the battle for the wooden spoon and saw Bristol Nomads defeat Blaenavon Aces 26-4 to just avoid the dubious honour. The Nomads were fortunate to be able to call up guest player Tony Collins who went on to win the player of the match with 3 wins. He was well supported by Eleftherios Williams and Geoff Strangeway with 3 and 2 wins respectively. For the Aces guest player Peter Gordon picked up his teams only success.

With three weeks to go the outcome of the Division Two title is still in the balance.  After this weeks matches Cwmbran Panthers are in the driving seat following a 19-14 win over Cwmbran Devils. The Panthers, with 2 matches remaining, are currently 26 points ahead of their nearest rivals Cwmbran Dynamos, who have 3 matches left. Next week these rivals meet in a showdown which could decide the title. Despite their defeat, the Devils provided the player of the match in Roshan Rai with 3 wins. For the Panthers Colin Price and Yuri Cherkasenko picked up 2 wins each.

The only other match played in Division Two this week saw North Gwent Cougars cement their third position with a closely fought 18-15 win over Cwmbran Fellows. The Cougars' Jonathan Deacon picked up his first player of the match award with his 3 wins, just edging out team mate Sam Slatter, who also had 3 wins. For the Fellows, Haydn Skinner secured 1 win and 6 points, Mick Mellor had 1 win and 5 points and Peter Teichner had 1 win and 4 points.
