6th November 2018 Match Reports

This weeks matches in Division One of the Eastern Valley Table Tennis League saw Cwmbran Aztecs maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a 23-11 win over Cardiff Nomads. This result leaves them six points behind the leaders Cwmbran Blues, with a game in hand. For the Aztecs, player of the match, Tony Collins registered three wins and he was well supported by Andrew Ryder and Mark Edmunds with two wins each. For the Nomads, Mike Bishop had one win and Geoff Strangeway had a good win over the higher ranked Edmunds.

The other match in division one saw Cwmbran Tigers register a 24-14 win over Blaenavon Aces. For the Tigers, Roshan Rai was player of the match with his three wins, including a victory over the higher ranked Ben Allen. There were also two wins for the Tigers' Jeraze Dhanbhoora. For the Aces, Allen picked up two wins and Colin Price had a good win over Michal Luckanic.

Division Two continues to see a battle for top spot between Cwmbran Eccentrics and North Gwent Cougars. At the moment it is the Eccentrics who lead the way following their 20-10 win over Cwmbran Fellows. The Eccentrics provided the player of the match in John Thomas whose three victories included a win over the previously unbeaten Wayne Ford, to maintain his own undefeated status. Thomas was well supported by Ian Shipley with his two wins. For the Fellows, Ford picked up two wins and Mick Mellor had a good win over Lincoln Alford.

North Gwent Cougars had a closely fought win over Cwmbran Dynamos 20-17. The Cougars won the first four games but the Dynamos came back strongly to win four of the last five games. The Cougars had the player of the match in Michel Policht with two wins, and he was well supported by Sam Slatter, also with two wins. For the Dynamos, Alex Jones picked up two wins and Richard Lownsbrough also registered two very  good wins over Goran Karabar and Policht.

The final match in division two saw Cwmbran Devils just edge out Cwmbran Lions 16-14. The Devils were thankful to Stan Williams who picked up the player of the match award with his three maximum victories, including a very good win over Mike Blatchford. Williams was well supported by Colin Scott with his two wins which also including a good win over Blatchford. For the Lions, Haydn Skinner picked up two wins including a victory over the higher ranked Scott.
