English Schools Table Tennis Butterfly Team Championships

The Zone finals for the English Schools Table Tennis Butterfly Team Championships was held last weekend at Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria.

 Harrogate had four team finalists in the boys U/11, U/13, U/16 and U/19 boys.

 The U/11 team of Jackson Procter, Harry Buxton, Zach Buxton and Oliver Dolman played for Pannal Junior School.

Results: Lost 0-8 to Victoria Dock, Hull

                   Lost 0-8 to Bankfields, Middlesbrough

                   Lost 2-6 to Bricknell, Hull

                   Lost 3-5 to St James, Cumbria

The boys all played well improving as the day went on, winning at least one set each.

The final match against St James was almost a draw Zach battling to the end, losing 11-13 in the fifth.

Two of the boys have only be playing since September so did remarkably well for their first Tournament.

 

The U/13 Team of Leo Murray, Cameron Lindsey, Danny Owen and Edward Evans played for Harrogate Grammar.

Results: Won 8-0 to Windermere, Cumbria

                   Won 7-1 to Whickham,Newcastle

                   Lost 1-7 to Humberston, Grimsby

                   Won 7-1 to Nunthorpe, Cleveland in a winner takes all final match Again two of the boys only took up table tennis in September, Racquets helping with the coaching.

The team goes through to the Regional finals in Grantham on Sunday 9th February.

 

 

The U/16 Team of Theo Kelly, Tom Barlow, Gabriel Mead and Maciej Cwiklinski played for St John Fishers

Results: Won 7-1 to St Mary’s Newcastle

                   Draw 4-4 with Nunthorpe, Cleveland, Lost 307-314 on points scored.

                   Lost 0-8 to St Mary’s Hull

The boys just fell short of qualifying for Grantham.

 The U/19 Team of Sammy Kelly, Ben Collins, Aman Joshua and Charlie Lockett played for St J Fishers.

Results: Won 7-1 to Windermere

              Lost 2-6 to St Mary’s, Hull The team goes through to the Regional finals in Grantham. St Mary’s have won the All England finals in past years but Sammy won both his matches in straight sets.

 All the teams have at least two players who are eligible to play in the same age group next year.
