SUMMER LEAGUE 2023

This year's Summer League ended in dramatic fashion with Raqueteers overcoming Sparatcus 29-25 in a closley contested final.

Going into the last two matches Spartacus held a 24-18 lead and needed only 4 points from a possible 12 to win the competition.

The penultimate match between Kate Reid and Ryan Jowsey was extremely close, Ryan giving away a 7 point handicap manged to win teh game 21-14 and so 21-21 after handicap, but gained one of the 4 points needed.

The second game saw Kate lose 15-21 but with the 7 points, turn it into a 22-21 win and so take the overall game 43-42 and a 5-1 points victory.

Going into the final game the match was then closely poised Spartacus leading 25-23.

All down to Kevin Bates against Tom Suttill. Kevin having a healthy 11 point handicap per game.

The first game Tom won 21-13 but after applying the handicap Kevin took it 24-21 and the first 2 points.

The match was then tied at 25-25!

Final game of the whole Summer League and the Title still undecided.

Tom again took the game 21-12, but that 11 point handicap switched the result to 23-21 to Kevin and the match, title was won!

Congratulations to the Racqueteers squad of Kate Reid, Kevin Bates, Adrian Holey, Diane Howard and Peter Zammitt.

A really enjoyable Summer League with 60 players registered to play across all 4 divisions. Hopefully same again in 2024!
