First Match New Season New Teams New Players For Haywards Heath Table Tennis League.
Premier Division
Assassins team last season’s champions carried on to where they left off with a 10-0 win over newly promoted team Dark Horses. This season Assassins junior boys Keigo Burnham, Ben Worley and Charley Hough are joined by top veteran David Champneys. It was three apiece all round for David Champneys, Ben Worley and Charlie Hough with David and Ben also winning the doubles. Dark Horses Steve Ive, Ross Knowlson and Viv Cole played well with Steve Ive and Viv Cole each taking Charlie Hough to five sets.
Ping Panthers also had a 10-0 win over the other new team White Lines. For Panthers Marc Burman, Tomas Pomej and newcomer Jacob Evans were in fine form all getting maximum wins with Marc and Tomas winning the doubles over Sally Hughes and Stuart Brooks.
New comers and completely new team of White Lines Sally Hughes, Graham Beaney and Stuart Brooks were unlucky to come up against such a strong team in their first match.
Also newly promoted from division one St Andrews Terry Dean, Stuart Vincent and Michael Robinson went down 6-4 to Hang Em High runners up in the premier last season. For Hang Em High, junior John Strang was the only player with a treble, Graham Carter winning two and Michael Bridger one. For St Andrews Michael Robinson with two and Stuart Vincent with one and Stuart Vincent and Michael Robinson taking the doubles.
Final pair of teams Game Changers and Dynamos postponed match.
Division One
With this very competitive division it was three 6-4 results and one five all draw.
Happy Days with Cathy Seiderer, Bob Watson and Samantha Stoner defeated One Hit Wonders 6-4. Two apiece for Samantha Stoner and Bob Watson with Cathy Seiderer winning one. In the doubles Samantha Stoner and Bob Watson took the doubles and with it the match.
For One Hits, Bob Hoare won two as did Frank Hanley. Third player Alanna Blain competed well in her first match in division one, going to five sets in one game and taking a set off both Samantha Stoner and Bob Watson.
Spin Masters defeated X Men 6-4. Thanks to a great treble from junior Riccardo Bagaini plus one from Claudio Bagaini and one from junior Tommy Worley with the junior pair defeating the experienced seniors Angus Ogg and Peter Caddy in the doubles to win the match. For X Men two from Angus Ogg plus one each from Peter Caddy and Tom Christophersen.
Mavericks came away 6-4 winners over Burning Rubbers thanks to a treble for Tim Grant two from Darius Mayhew and the doubles from Darius Mayhew and Jim Allum. For Burning Rubbers two for Blake Davies plus one each from Steve Lee and Gavin Pitts.
For Magiks it was two for Kevin Deacon and Alistair Blue with one from Tony Turk.
Division Two
Dangermen team strengthened this season with Peter Vincent were 10-0 winners over Smashing Pumpkins with trebles all round for Colin Cooper, Tony Pells and Peter Vincent with Colin and Peter winning the doubles.
Pumpkins Matt Stevens, Oliver Howard and Simon Howard worked hard for little reward.
Mad Batters with two new juniors Johnny Griffiths and Josh Cole plus wily veteran Lyle Cyster defeated Swifts 9-1. A treble from Lyle Cyster and Johnny Griffiths plus two from Josh Cole. Josh and Johnny went on to defeat Emily Dunsby and Chloe Robinson in the doubles.
For Swifts juniors Emily Dunsby, nine year old Chloe Robinson and Claudia Hough only Claudia had a win but much more to come from Swifts as the season progresses.
9-1 was also the result for Pingwins Vs Bade Runners. Trebles for David Polhill and Paul Lewis with Rupert Browning two plus the doubles with David Polhill. Keith Johnson was the winner for Blade Runners.
