Match Report - Week 15 - February 2nd 2022

Premier Division

Horsham Spinners move further into the lead in the premier with Lynne Trussell, Erik Van Mol and Rory Scott’s 9-0 win over Crawley Community. Communities Brett Holt played with great determination to take Lynne Trussell to five. It was a tough introduction to the league to new player Peeyush Verma against the top team.

Hang Em High with the return of Andrew Sharland together with Michael Bridger and Ben Worley made short work of the opposition and returned to the number two spot. Hang Em High’s team took no chances against Allstars. Andrew Sharland after missing a number of matches was in good form winning his three singles with only Tony Rowell stretching him to a five setter. Michael Bridger as usual playing his exciting attacking style also won three. He was ably supported by Ben Worley with two wins. Allstars Tony Rowell played with his usual determination defeating Ben Worley and going to five with Michael Bridger, Freddy Goodall also took Michael Bridger to five.

Despite having former England player Emma Torkington and Sussex player Daniel Pound plus Minesh Agnihotri, Divergents just managed a 5-4 win over Ping Panthers. For Divergents it was a treble for the attacking Daniel Pound plus two exciting wins for Emma Torkington, both players play to attack and are great to watch.

For Ping Panthers it was great to see Marc Burman returning after a year’s absent from the league and seeing him win two games, losing only to Daniel Pound in a tense close attacking thriller, Marc went on to defeat Minesh Agnihotri and Emma Torkington. Marc’s game with Emma was the game of the night with both players giving their all Marc finally came through 11-6 in the fifth.

Richard Caddy was the star in Dynamo’s match with Crawley Knights, winning three with Richard Cosens wining two and Matthew Caddy with one. For the Knights, Mina Matta won two and one for Josef Krakovsky. Final score with many close games 6-3 to Dynamos.

 

Conference Division One

King Pongs stay King of Division One with a 7-2 victory over Thunderbolts. Three well-earned wins for Nikita Kalyazin which  included two five setters, two apiece for both Darius Mayhew and Jacob Allonby .

David Metcalfe for Thunderbolts defeated Jacob Allonby in five and Jim Griffin defeated Darius Mayhew.

In second place Pingwins defeated Spinderella’s 7-2. Back to form Dan Polhill won his three, as did David Polhill although David Struggled against Annabel Bridger winning 11-6 in the fifth. Third player Rupert Browning winning one. It was one each for Annabel Bridger and Viv Cole. Third player Karin Kunrath played well by taking a set of all Pingwins players.  

A good close match saw New Avengers just defeating Magiks Five games to four.  With Luke Goff winning two and just losing to Alistair Blue 11-13 in the fifth. Prevesh Ramnath also won two losing only to the experience of Magiks Mel Sims.  Robert Goff was the match winner for New Avengers in defeating Alistair Blue for his teams win. For Magiks it was two for Mel Sims and one each for Alistair Blue and Kevin Deacon.

With the X Men a player short they went down 4-5 to Blade Runners. Blade Runners Jennifer Watkins played brilliantly in defeating Robert Hoare and Colin Cooper for two wins plus a forfeit, while team mates Jonathan Buckley and Keith Johnson claimed a forfeit each.
