Table-tennis League Report

In a match lasting 3 and a half hours, County Council A drew with Wellesbourne in their Division 1 fixture. The visitors’ Alan Cotton was in magnificent form, bagging three with Pete Dunnett and John Price adding one each but Council stayed in it with a brace from Phil Paine, singles from Clive Irwin and Pat McCabe, and an Irwin/Paine doubles win.
Two man St. Georges A stormed to a 3-0 lead against Colebridge A with two victories for Damon Fenton and a success for Earl Sweeney but Michael Browne, Kate Hughes and Sarra Wang fought their way level, clinched the doubles and then had 3 sets conceded to them. Every played match went the distance.
A hat-trick from Ryan Stockham was not enough to steal a win for Potters Green who had to be content with a draw against WCC B. Green’s Gokham Aydogdu posted two but Nilton Green’s double kept the visitors at bay. St. Georges C earned a hard fought 6-4 win over Rugby B with Kieran Dabbs winning twice to ally with singles from Richard Bashford and Craig Brown. Dabbs/Brown were doubles winners with Ryan Lines 2, Ben Holvey 1 and Danny Ricks responding.

The young Rugby C trio of Niall Herbert, Paul Lilley and Anshul Satsangi all nabbed two to give their team a surprise 6-4 Division 2 success at Free Church B, for whom Hugh Matthews took a treble. Eathorpe A went to stalemate with Nomads A despite Pete Titmas’s treble. George Allison and Chris Atkins contributed one apiece but pairs from Andy Davies and Tony Thomas plus the doubles ensured there was no winner.

A close Division 3 encounter saw Rugby D better Nomads B 6-4. Dave Cox claimed a maximum, Jo Outhwaite a double and Phil Morris one. Steve Poole notched two in reply.
Flavels enjoyed an excellent 7-3 victory over Snitterfield A with Mick Bennett and Trevor Bradley claiming all the winning sets. County Council C took Free Church G 6-4 with Tony Ford, Mark Freeman and Cliff Jackson all winning twice. Julie Richardson starred for Church with a threesome. Snitterfield had better fortune away to Whitnash triumphing 7-3 with Stuart Ayres, Tim Fell and Dave Milton each taking two.

Ashorne A chalked a 9-1 win over WCC D in the 4th Division. Chris Bowles and Roger Kelley
were unbeaten and Steve Bolton won twice. Carl Morgan grabbed the consolation. Two young sides Free Church K and Rugby E met with Rugby triumphing 7-3 thanks to Emma Kilpatrick’s treble and twos from Millie Bradshaw and Karen Buckby.
In Division A new side Ashorne B lost narrowly, 2-3, to FISCC for whom Mark Jones and Mark Kingham won a single each and combined for the vital doubles. Wily Roger Kelley showed his experience to beat both. Snitterfield C took 4 points off Free Church M with Henry Lu bagging a maximum haul. Peter Vale-Humphries recoded one win but fell to Ben King. Other results: Free Church M 0 Free Church L 5 (Keith Knott 2, Tony Williams 2 +D); Eathorpe C 0 Free Church L 5 (Knott 2, Williams 2 +D)
Eathorpe D were impressive B division winners against St. Georges F, John and Jon Ablett taking every point. Eathorpe E also had a comfortable 4-1 success over Free Church O, William Apted taking 2 and James Keay 1. Callum Pickering joined Keay for the doubles. James Robertson and Jay Virdi took all the singles for Free Church N against their O club-mates and Tom Fletcher joined Robertson for the 5th point.

Free Church Q squeezed past their S team in division C with Sibel Saka nailing both of her singles. Katie Singleton won once but fell to Eve Briscoe who also took the doubles with Jenny Singleton.
Free Church P hammered their R team 5-0 with Lewis and Mark Singleton, the latter on debut, untouchable.
Two more Free Church derbies in Division D where FC U crept past FC V 3-2. James Robinson had a part in all 3 wins with Sundeep Virdi and Claudia Youakim (her first League win) replying.
FC T walloped FC W 5-0, Kerry Dorning and Alice Todd in impressive form. W were also on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline at Eathorpe G. Matthew Hayes, returning after several years, won two but the Eathorpe youngsters of Alexander Birri and Jamie Sayers deserved their win.
