Representing our league against other leagues is the highest honour our league can bestow upon our playing members, be that at Cadet, Junior, Senior or Veterans level. With your help we want to recognise yours and your leagues achievements. If you can help add details to our records below please contact Paul Grayham Rules, Research & Projects Secretary.
Background:
As a league we enter Cadet and Junior Teams in the British National North West Division and the Lancashire & Cheshire League who are supported by parents and our coaches such as Tony Rigby and Jim Higham. We also enter a number of Senior and Veterans Teams in the Lancashire & Cheshire League co-ordinated by Tony Rigby with each team captain taking responsibility for organising who plays and when.
Cadet, Junior and Senior matches usually take place on 4 Sundays throughout the year at venues such as Garstang, Blackpool and Widnes where all the teams play a number of matches against other teams in their division. Matches typically start about 9am and continue until around 5pm. They can be long days and you take your own refreshments but it's a great way to test your skills against the best players from other leagues in the North West of England.
Veterans matches are played throughout the year, typically in the evening and you'll occasionally get to see one played at our Centre if one of our teams is at home. Still very competitive but more relaxed than the Senior days, refreshments are often provided afterward the match when both teams get together for a chat and to moan about nets and edges or funny bats. Again it's a great opportunity to test your skills against some very tactically astute players.
Below is a record of our successes in all these competitions on a year by year basis. Of particular note, is 1981 / 82 when the Mens Team won the Wilmott Cup. This competition was the top national competition for local leagues to compete it. There was no higher award to be won.
