Shrewsbury registered a third successive victory in  the veterans Midland
league at Leicester on sunday and are currently three points clear at the top
of the Division two..

Matt Croft started the game in impressive form by beating Hinckleys No1 Pete
Jamieson comfortably 11-4,11-8,11-6 and Mike Dudley increased the
lead with a stylish 11-3,11-5,11-3 win against the home sides captain
Barry Robinson .Hinkley hit back immediately as Jason Woodfield outhit
Shrewsbury captain Terry Ridgway with a display of stunning attacking
table tennis,The Shropshire side pushed into a 3-1 lead as Croft battled to
beat Robinson 5-11,11-8,8-11,9-11,11-5 with a determined display against the
tricky anti spin defender.

The east midland side were in no mood for a defeat and came back well with a
victory in the doubles and a win for Pete Jamieson to level the score at 3-3
leaving the Shrewsbury team needing three wins from the remaining four to
register the win and Mike Dudley put them on the way with a classy
performance against Woodfield 12-10,11-5,11-7 , Terry Ridgway added the
fifth with a 11-3,8-11,11-6,11-8 win over Robinson with a patient
display of chopping and counterhitting.

Matt Croft wrapped up the win by beating the home sides No3
12-10,12-10,12-10 and Mike Dudley fought back from a 2-1 defecit ( and a
serious bout of cramp) to beat the big hitting style of Peter Jamieson
5-11,11-3,4-11,12-10,11-4.

With a tricky away visit to Nottingham due in April the Shrewsbury side
still need a few more points to secure promotion to the top division but
look to continue their unbeaten run against second placed Leamington in three
weeks time.
