Colin Stallwood called upon his many years of experience to pip Jane Li to the Tollgate Top 9 title. Li was in top form following the Summer break having spent  two weeks at TTK Greenhouse but a slim-line Stallwood in turn attended the Cooke & Deaton Summer School, which put him in good stead.

in a fluctuating decider Stallwood narrowly crossed the line;  8, -5, 9, -9, 9.

Li earlier accounted for Nigel Hodder and new-boy Andy Dosher who did have the consolation of beating twice former champion Andy Warner and Greg Green who earlier lost to Stallwood in Four. Hodder also got the better of Warner to finish third. Daryl Lott finished seventh on count back thanks to a tough win over the desruptive pimples of veteran Mick Taylor. Roger Hance had the satisfaction of a five set win over Daryl with Taylor beating Hance three straight.
