Warwickshire Over 60's Division 1A - Saturday 24th March

County Over 60 Division 1A

Warwickshire Over 60's entered the 2nd weekend of this competition pointless after the first weekend.

They were bolstered by the addition of ex Irish International Pat Glynn at No 1 but were without the services of John Taylor who was unavailable for the weekend.

First match was against a Lancashire team who were destined to win the division, none of the mens singles went Warwickshire's way against strong opposition but Dot Macfarlane won the ladies singles, and combined with Pat Glynn and Malcolm Macfarlane to take both mixed doubles as well to return a 3-7 result.

Second match of the day was against Yorkshire 2, runners up in the end, Warwickshire started really well with Pat Glynn defeating Mick Farnhill in 5 games and Malcolm Macfarlane defeating Mike Burton also in 5 games. 2-0 ahead but that was the end of the story as Yorkshire reeled off the next 8 games, however three of these were 11-9 wins in the fifth game, the mens doubles, Malc v Mick Farnhill and Pat v Doug Bartle, so it was by no means as one sided as the final 2-8 score suggests.

All the good play finally came together against Cambridgeshire, 2 singles for Pat Glynn, 1 for each of Malc Macfarlane and Pete Roddy plus the womens singles from Dot and all three doubles, 1 mens(Pat & Pete) and 2 mixed (Pat & Dot and Malc and Dot) made for a 8-2 win.

This solitary win was sufficent to move Warwickshire into 4th place in the table, our best ever position.
