Colebridge’s Aman Ubhi took the Warwickshire Men’s singles title in Warwick at the weekend on a day that saw his club dominate the Senior events. Ubhi had beaten Phoenix’s (Coventry) Ryan Stockham in 5 in the semis whilst Hamstead’s (Birmingham) Steve Bertie had also got the better in 5 of Colebridge’s Navinder Matharu in his semi. Aman beat Steve Bertie 8-11, 11-7,11-9,11-8 in the Final.
Club mate Kate Hughes took the Ladies title in 4 against Jessica Birbeck of the Ambleside club in Nuneaton.
The Men’s doubles crown was taken by Ubhi and club-mate Edward Lynn who defeated the reigning champions, Free Church’s Deepak Chandrababu and Chris Mulligan 17-15,11-9,11-7.
Kate Hughes combined with Jessica Birbeck to lift the Ladies Doubles against Dawn Sagoo and Helen Turner of Smithwood, Birmingham.
Kate and Aman then paired to make it a clean sweep for their club and take the Mixed Doubles against Birbeck and her club colleague Arun Jogi.
Colebridge also took the Junior Boys’ Singles through Amit Ubhi who beat the impressive Aaron Riley of Potters Green .
Riley did get his County title, however, teaming with club-mate Taran Dhillon to defeat Satsangi and Lilley in the Junior Boys doubles.
The Junior Girls title was taken by Jessica Birbeck who overcame Phoenix’s (Coventry) Holly Thompson.
The pair then combined to win the Junior Girls doubles over Milly Bradshaw(Rugby) and Olivia Fletcher (Free Church)
Rugby ruled in the under 15 events with Anshul Satsangi beating club-mate Paul Lilley in straight games in the Boys final. Lilley had earlier defeated Lee Dorning of Free Church in a see-sawing semi-final which was won in 5 whilst Satsangi was taken to 4 close games by Timmy Cooper in his semi-final.
Milly Bradshaw overcame Olivia Fletcher 14-12, 11-9,11-9 in the under 15 Girls but then lost to Olivia in the under 13 singles which Fletcher claimed deuce in the 5th.
Free Church’s Timmy Cooper took the under 13 boys title in straight games against the rapidly improving George Allison of Phoenix.
Free Church also bagged the under 11 title in the shape of Oscar Dalrymple who beat Nathan Allen of Phoenix. Allen had earlier beaten Church’s Jack Green deuce in the 5th.
