The first of the Schools individual competitions took place on Friday 13th January
Matt Outhwaite (Lawrence Sheriff) had to work hard for his title in the Under 19 Boys’ competition, with runner up Matt Man (Warwick School) losing in four close sets, 13-11,11-9, 9-11, 11-8. Danny Ricks (Warwickshire College, Leamington) came third after very close 5 set matches against Ryan Lines (Warwickshire College, Rugby) and Taran Dhillon (Lawrence Sheriff).

In the under 16 boys’ event Jesse Kendrick-Hill looked in control of the final against Liam Victoros (both Lawrence Sheriff pupils) after winning a close first set, but had tough matches to get there. In group stages both Paul Lilley (Bablake) and Niall Herbert (Aylesford) took sets, and the nail-biting semi final against Anshul Satsangi (Lawrence Sheriff) swung in favour of one player then the other before Jesse finally won in four sets

The Under 11 boys, Under 13 boys and all girls’ events were held on Thursday 19th January.
Charlotte Spencer (North Leamington School) was the only entry in the Under 19 girls’ event so progresses automatically to the National Finals in Doncaster on 21st April and she will be hoping to play as well as last year, when she lost in a close semi-final to the eventual winner.
Holly Thompson (Stratford Grammar) won the Under 16 girls with a win over Abbie Hemming (Kingsbury), but the third set was very close and Holly had to keep her cool to win 3-0.
There were more Under 13 girls that in recent years but Milly Bradshaw (Bilton) was unbeaten all evening to earn her place in the finals. Olivia Fletcher (Myton ) came a close second, losing only to Milly.

In the Under 11 event, the boys mixed with the girls to give them all plenty of matches. The top girl was Tiegan McGann (Abbotts Farm Junior), with Jack Green (Priorsfield) finishing as first boy, ahead of Sam Cafearo (Abbotts Farm).

There was a good entry in the under 13 Boys with 23 players battling it out. There were competitive matches from the outset, in group matches, but it was the top 4 seeds who progressed through quarter-finals to the semi-finals. Timmy Cooper (Myton) faced James Morrow (Alcester Grammar) and Lee Dorning (Southam College) played George Allison(Woodlands Academy). Both matches went to four sets but it was Free Church Table Tennis Club team-mates, Timmy and Lee who went through to play each other in the final. Timmy took the first set 11-7, with Lee taking the next by the same score. Timmy managed to edge ahead taking the third 12-10 but Lee kept his cool and took the fourth 11-8. At the start of the fifth set it was impossible to say who looked stronger, and there were some truly amazing rallies between the two players. Eventually it was Lee who came out on top, but both boys played excellent table tennis.
