On the second day of the County Cadet Championships Warwickshire were to meet Glamorgan and Worcestershire. Glamorgan, who's team comprised the top three Cadet Boys and two of the top three Cadet Girls in Wales, had not lost a single match in the competition so far and continued their impressive run with a 10-0 victory over Worcestershire in the first fixture of the day. With Warwickshire playing Glamorgan next, the players knew it would be tough and being determined to compete they displayed some quality play at times. Warwickshire #1 Adam Cofler was unlucky not to take a set from Welsh #1 Cadet Joshua Stacey losing -9, -16, -10. Ultimately though their opponents were too strong and another 10-0 was on until Lisa Rinnhofer fought hard to take the final match in the deciding 5th set against Welsh #2 Anna Hursey to deny Glamorgan another clean-sweep. Having Katie Singleton back from injury and playing well was a positive for the Bears.
With both teams having suffered heavy defeats going into the final fixture both Warwickshire and Worcestershire, who were one point behind the the Bears in the championship, would be keen to bounce back. Warwickshire struggled to find their rhythm and looked nervous at times having to dig deep to stay in contention. The ever-consistent Lisa Rinnhofer won both of her matches, Adam Cofler and Jenny Singleton took one each but Worcestershire's #3 Alistair Witheford battled well to secure two deciding-set wins over Jack Green and Lewis Singleton to keep the pressure on. The Bears had not been ahead in the fixture and with the score 4-5 in Worcestershire's favour with one match to play, they needed a win. An impressive display followed from recently called-up Jack Green, who secured the vital victory against Worcs #2 Dominic Weston to draw the match and earn Warwickshire a point and ensure they didn't leave empty handed.
The final round of matches is in Southampton on 21st March.
