Warwickshire's Over 60's team finished in a respectable fifth spot out of nine in County Championships Division 1A following their second weekend of matches at Draycott recently.
Warwickshire began with a 7-3 victory against Nottinghamshire with Pat Glynn yet again in excellent form, winning both his singles and combining with Phil Paine for a Mens Doubles success and with Linda Clempson(Coventry) for a solid victory in the first Mixed Doubles. Paine and Steve Taylor each contributed a crucial singles success to steer Warwickshire home, and Clempson sealed an impressive debut at Over 60 level for the County with an equally important nail biting five set singles verdict.
Fortunes dipped somewhat in the next match when Warwickshire lost 2-8 to a very strong third placed Cheshire 2 team, with Glynn notching the only winning singles and teaming up with Clempson to notch another Mixed Doubles win. Paine and Taylor both lost in five sets to the unorthodox but highly effective Phil Luxon.
The following day proved a tough test for Warwickshire, who lost 2-8 to Cheshire 3 and drew 5-5 with struggling Cambridgeshire . Steve Taylor,
Pete Dunnett, John Taylor and Linda Clempson all fought hard, with Steve Taylor and Clempson both achieving singles victories against Cheshire 3, whilst both Taylor's bagged a singles against Cambridgeshire which when added to the three points conceded by the opposition for being a player short saw Warwickshire to a share of the spoils.
