Glaxo Competition

The Glaxo Hard Bat competition was an outstanding success. The event was played on Sunday 9th September and attracted 33 players. There was a mix of established Barrow League players, new local juniors and some adults keen to enjoy a new sport. Although, Glaxo was a venue used by teams in the Barrow League many years ago the new set up has been established with a Sport England grant from the League. This has provided new tables and nets as well as playing equipment including bats and balls.

The Winner of the event was Scott Barker from Millom, who now represents Lancaster University. The medals and trophies were presented by Jonathan Crawford.

Keith Dymond, Chair of the Barrow and District Table Tennis League (and also an Ulverston resident), was delighted with the event and the turn out. He commented that the League has been hoping to re-establish the sport in the town.

Following the event, a new team from Ulverston has entered the League in Division Two and club nights have started at three venues - Glaxo, Croftlands and Ulverston Victoria High School.
