Last week saw the penultimate week of league matches before the end of the season for the Bolton Table Tennis League with all top teams milking as many points as they could. In the Premier Division the top team Glodwick are completely out of reach of the rest of the pack. They took on Hilton A and had a maximum 27-4 win. Second-placed and inevitable runners-up Ramsbottom Town A had a 26 – 6 win over Ladybridge A with nines from Michael Moir and Andrew Jackson. Third-placed Flixton Cricket Club A had an astonishing 27 – 2 win over mid-table Radcliffe Cricket Club. Fourth-placed Ramsbottom Town B beat bottom team Burning Desire 21 – 14 with nines from Brian Clements and Ryan Choong. Fifth-placed Little Lever Cricket Club A also had a 27 – 4 win over Wharton.
In Division One the leaders Coburg beat Little Lever Cricket Club B 21 – 9 assisted by a nine from Chris Naylor. Second-placed Hilton B suffered an unexpected defeat against sixth-placed Ramsbottom Town D who won 26 – 11 with nines from David Kay and Keith Howarth. Third-placed Ramsbottom Town C still have a result to come, so some shuffling about is likely to take place around the top of the table. Fourth-placed Hilton D with only two players, played an equal two-man Meadow Ben A. Hilton ran out winners 18 – 8 with a nine from Matthew Fishwick. Elseware, Heaton Cricket Club A had a close 17 – 16 win over Hilton E helped by a nine from David Hall and Farnworth SC A beat Wingates 21 – 13.
Results in for Division Two have unreachable Bolton TTC A maintaining form with a 28 – 5 win over Top Spinners with nines from Nayem Alam and Kirit Chauhan. Second-placed Polonia Club A are also unreachable but have a result to come. Third-placed St. Paul’s Peel overcame Meadow Ben C 22 – 11 with the usual expected nine from Lee Devenport. Fourth paced Meadow Ben A played fifth-placed Ladybridge B running out winners 21 – 11 assisted by nines from Mike Heaton and Peter Cooper. Brass Zone had to borrow a player from Division Three, yet the regular players were still able to scrape a 16 – 13 win largely due to Roger Bertrand’s nine games.
In Division Three unreachable Walkden Methodists beat Irlam Steel SC 23 – 12 with nines from Carl Bennett and Steve Kelsall. Now established in second place Hilton F beat their own third-placed junior H team 17 – 13 despite a resisting nine from Jei Makino. Fourth-placed Meadow Hill A, having to borrow a B team player, lost out to Hilton G 17 – 15 assisted by a nine from Hilton’s Martyn Rolling. Polonia Club B who have now improved to move up to mid-table, beat Farnworth SC D with a maximum score of 27 – 6. Meadow Ben D beat Ladybridge C 17 – 14 despite a resisting nine from Brian Greenhalgh and Albany took advantage of bottom of the table, a two-man Meadow Hill B, to run out winners 27 – 1.
