Senior League Week 25

Division 1

Champions Lions B finished the season off as they started, with a victory. A 7-3 win was obtained over the side to finish 3rd, Lions A. Green players Olly Langlois and Joshua Butler continued in their good run of form as each won their 3 singles matches over Phil Ogier, Ben Foss and reserve Luke Bichard. Ogier came the closest to defeating them, but ended up losing 11-8 in the 5th end of his clash with Butler. Langlois and Butler were also comfortable during their straight game doubles win over Ogier and Foss. Each of the Lions players defeated Ryan Bichard, a good 4 game win obtained by 2nd Division Luke over his older brother.

Whistlers A clinched the runners-up spot courtesy of a narrow 6-4 win over a 2-man Whistlers C side. Averages topper Garry Dodd has only lost 1 singles match in the league all season and he finished with a pair of comfortable straight game wins over Joshua and Lawrence Stacey. He then teamed with Phil Hunkin to pick up the important doubles match over the twins in straight games. Both twins picked up wins over Mark Pipet and Phil Hunkin in straight games.

Lions C may have finished bottom of the table, but their return to a full strength side for the first time since February proved fruitful as they defeated Whistlers B 7-3. Paul Hainsworth led the way with 3 singles wins over Dawn Morgan and reserves Joseph Bourgaize and Ryan Gilson. Liam Robilliard and Andre De Carteret both beat Bourgaize and Gilson, however each lost out to Morgan in straight games.

Division 2

Lions F are in pole position to take the crown after their 8-2 win over a Lions D side missing both Martin Sarre and Andy Gill. Luke Bichard was the best performer for the league leaders due to his wins over Ian Le Page and reserves Mike Lucas and Terry Trustum. Dan Collenette beat Trustum and Lucas, but was soundly beaten in straight games by Le Page in the final match of the night. Reserve Andy Ferbrache picked up a pair of good wins over Trustum and Le Page, but lost to fellow reserve Lucas in 4. Bichard and Collenette won the doubles match against Trustum and Le Page in 4.

Division 3

Title winners Whistlers F cruised past Ravenscroft Panthers A in their penultimate match of the season. Joseph Bourgaize and Paula Le Ber were ultimately comfortable on the night with each securing singles wins over Ben Foote, Juliette Yeaman and reserve Mick Ingrouille. Daisy Kershaw beat Foote and Yeaman, but was surprisingly beaten by Ingrouille in 5. The Panthers combination of Foote and Yeaman have had some good doubles wins this season and they earned a quality 5 set win over Bourgaize and Kershaw on this occasion.

Division 4

Lions I have been the most dominant champions across all Divisions and they finished off well with an 8-2 win over Lions J. Andy Ferbrache completed the season with a 100% average courtesy of wins over Lynn Finn, Bolette Hjorth and reserve Lionel Jones. Sue Ferbrache also won her 3 singles matches and the pair teamed to win the doubles over Jones and Hjorth in straight games. 5th Division reserve Diane Le Page added the 8th win when she beat Jones in straight games, however she lost to both Finn and Hjorth, also in straight games.

Division 5

Whistlers O completed their campaign for the title following a tight 6-4 win over their rivals, 2nd placed Lions L. Junior Ellis Tomlin once more showed he is ready for the higher divisions with singles wins over Graham Mallett, Derek Cave and reserve Rose Powell. Shane Cotter beat Mallett and Cave, but he was impressively beaten by Powell in 5. It was the doubles match that proved decisive in picking the winner between the 2 sides and Tomlin and Cotter beat Mallett and Cave in straight games, with each leg being claimed 11-9.
