Division 1
Lions C extended their lead at the top of the 1st Division following their 8-2 win over Lions B, the other side that held a 100% record coming into the fixture. The absence of the B side's star player Olly Langlois was a big factor in the outcome of the match in which both Phil Ogier and Paul Hainsworth won all of their singles matches. Ogier beat reserve Matt Stubbington and Ryan Bichard in straight games, but it was his opener against Ryan's younger brother Luke that was his toughest test. The youngster played some high quality table tennis and led 2-1 before Ogier battled through in 5. Hainsworth also beat Stubbington and Ryan 3-0 and also faced a tough test against the youngest player in the fixture. Bichard edged a tight 2nd 17-15 to level proceedings and had a great chance to lead when 10-8 up in the 3rd, but Hainsworth won 4 consecutive points to take it 12-10 and eased through the next end to win in 4. Andre De Carteret has had a good start to the season and he too came very close to securing a trio of singles wins. He started by reversing a 2-1 deficit to beat Stubbington in 5 and followed up with a 5 game win over Ryan. He led Luke 2-1 in his final match and despite having a match point at 10-9 in the decider, it was Luke that came through 12-10 to pick up the win that he deserved based on his performances on the night. He also picked up a good 5 set doubles win against Ogier and De Carteret alongside Ryan.
Lions A are in 3rd position, but they fell another point off the leaders after being held to a 5-5 draw by Whistlers A. Joshua Butler and Ben Foss did the damage with singles wins over Mark Pipet and Ryan Gilson, but a crucial 5 game win was also obtained by Dan Collenette over Gilson, whilst the match was delicately poised at 3-3. Garry Dodd made sure that the Lions side did not gain the full 2 points due to his unbeaten evening where he contributed to 4 of his side's wins. He eased past Foss and Collenette in straight games, but the same could not be said for his clash against Butler which was a battle. Butler came through the opener comfortably 11-6 and had his fair share of chances to take an epic pivotal 2nd end, which Dodd clinched 16-14. The 3rd was another tight affair but this time it was Butler to take it, 12-10. Dodd upped his level at this stage and came through the final 2 ends for the loss of just 11 points. The doubles encounter was another important match and Dodd teamed with Pipet to secure a highly impressive 4 game win over the strong pairing of Butler and Foss. Pipet was required to save his best for last and this was achieved due to his straight game win over Collenette in the final match of the night, with his team trailing 5-4 at the time.
Whistlers B shifted from bottom of the table to 4th due to their 7-3 win over Whistlers C. Joshua Stacey was in good form throughout the fixture and won all of his singles matches, crucially including a straight game win over his previously unbeaten twin, Lawrence. His other wins came over Albert Unden and Matthew Casey, with just the single end dropped to Unden in the process. Dawn Morgan beat Unden in straight games and also combined with Josh to win the doubles over Lawrence and Unden in straight games. Bourgaize also had a strong night and he earned wins over Unden and fellow Junior Casey, the latter being settled 11-8 in the decider. Casey regrouped from his loss to Bourgaize by sealing a nice 4 game win over Morgan.
Division 2
Lions E and D are still locked together at the top and already hold a commanding 5 point lead from the chasing pack.
The E side previously had an inferior games difference ratio, but their emphatic 10-0 whitewash of Ravenscroft Panthers A has seen them officially go top. The return of Carl Le Tissier strengthened the side and son Luke Le Tissier and Mike Lucas all enjoyed unbeaten evenings with each defeating Shaun Mosley, Peter Vivian and Brandon Ferbrache in singles clashes. The doubles was won by Luke and Lucas in straight games over Mosley and Ferbrache.
Lions D on the other hand were comfortable 8-2 winners over Ravenscroft Panthers B. Jamie Ferbrache remains as the only player with a 100% singles record in the Division and he eased past Ben Foote, Billy Ogier and Steve Martin. Andy Gill also won his 3 singles matches comfortably. Ian Le Page beat Martin in 5, but lost out to Foote in 4 and Ogier in 5. Gill and Le Page claimed the doubles in straight games over Martin and Ogier.
Division 3
The 3rd Division is by far the tightest of them all and completion of the 3rd round of matches sees 4 teams locked at the top on 4 points. St Pauls B are the ultimate leaders currently due to their superior game ratio despite being held to a 5-5 draw by Ravenscroft Panthers C. John Wills and Brian Le Cras each won twice to help the side to the point. Wills beat Mick Ingrouille in 4 and Mark Windsor in 5, whereas Le Cras beat both Ingrouille and Nick Windsor over the full distance, crucially his win over Windsor coming in the final match of the evening. Derek Carter earned the final win over Mark in straight games.
Division 4
The fourth is equally as tight as 3 teams are tied at the top on 7 points, however the 2 Lions side sat at the top do have a game in hand on Whistlers K.
