Senior League 2018-19 Week 7
Division 1

Whistlers B remain unbeaten at the top of the 1st Division of the Doric Insurance sponsored leagues, however they dropped a point for the first time this week.

The league leaders came unstuck against the side currently in 4th position in the table, Whistlers C, with the game ending as a 5-5 draw. Joshua Stacey was key to the success for the C side due to his unbeaten evening. He defeated twin Lawrence in 4 sets and both Matthew Casey and Ryan Gilson in straight sets. He also combined well with Charlotte Casey to earn an excellent straight sets doubles win over Lawrence and Casey. Mark Pipet was the player to pick up the all-important 5th rubber during the final encounter of the match. The first 4 games of this encounter with Gilson were shared, however a commanding 5-0 lead in the decider proved too much for Gilson, who succumbed 11-4. Lawrence and Casey each beat Pipet and Charlotte in singles action, whilst Gilson earned himself a 4 set win over Charlotte.

Defending champions Lions A made the most of the slip from the leaders by virtue of their 7-3 win over Lions C. The side is just a single point adrift now and Ben Foss was the best performer on the night with wins over Paul Hainsworth, Andy Gill and Corey Brouard. Ryan Bichard and Jamie Ferbrache each contributed with wins over Gill and Brouard to ensure the win was obtained. Ferbrache's wins were very important and saw him come from losing positions in each. He first trailed Brouard 2-0 before coming back to win 11-2 in the decider, whilst the win over Gill saw him overturn a 2-1 deficit to pinch the deciding end 16-14. Hainsworth earned wins over both Bichard and Ferbrache for the loss of just a single end to Bichard, whilst Gill and Brouard picked up a fine 4 set doubles win over Foss and Bichard.

Lions B are 4 points adrift of their A side in 3rd position, but they recorded an emphatic 9-1 win over a weakened Whistlers A side this week. Phil Ogier and Dan Collenette each beat Sam Clark and reserves Ian Fitchet and Callum Gilson without loss. Andre De Carteret overcame both Fitchet and Gilson in straight sets, but he lost to Clark in straight sets which prevented the whitewash. The doubles was won by De Carteret and Collenette over Gilson and Clark, once more in straight sets.

Division 2

Whistlers D secured an important 6-4 win in the top of the table clash with Lions D and it leaves them with a commanding 3 point advantage. Kay Chivers was key towards the result as she directly contributed to 4 of her side's 6 rubbers. She started with a tough match against Steve Ozanne, but played the decider well and took it 11-6. She followed up on this with straight sets wins over Carl Le Tissier and Tim Le Page. The doubles rubber was another key match and Chivers and Ben Sharp overcame Ozanne and Le Page in straight sets. Youngster Sharp is making his debut in the 2nd Division this season and he has performed very well. He played very well in his singles matches and his 4 set wins over Ozanne and Le Tissier ensured the win was obtained for his side. Each of the Lions members defeated Keith Opie and Le Page also earned a strong straight sets win over Sharp.

Division 3

Lions H and St Pauls B remain locked together at the top of the Division. The Lions side are officially top due to their superior games difference and they were 7-3 winners over their Whistlers counter-parts this week. Peter Powell, Oscar Pearson and Edward Rowe all defeated Darren Sarre and Nathan Pinchemain in singles action. Powell and Rowe also earned a 4 set doubles win over Pinchemain and Stuart Sarre. Stuart was in great form for the defeated side as he beat all Lions members in singles action.

The St Pauls side drifted a little further behind on the games ratio as they were only narrow 6-4 winners over Whistlers G. Derek Carter and John Wills were directly responsible for the result due to each of them winning their 3 singles matches over Matthew Board, Josh Crocker and Robert Naftel. Board came very close against Wills and despite leading 2-1, he was edged 15-13 in the deciding 5th end.

Division 4

Incredibly there are currently 3 teams level at the top with 10 points following seven matches of the season. The Lions K team of Val Guilbert, Diane Le Page and James Le Tissier officially lead the table and they won 9-1 over Whistlers K this week. Le Tissier was absent, but reserve Erin Bisson proved a good stand-in, winning all of her matches.

Lions L are next and they knocked former leaders Whistlers I off top spot and into 3rd due to their 8-2 win. Rose Powell defeated both Andy Le Page and reserve Nick Reardon, whilst Erin Vaudin and Karen Blondel each beat Reardon. Powell and Vaudin won a tight 5 set doubles encounter against Le Page and Reardon, whilst 3 rubbers were obtained by the Lions side via forfeit.
