The league leaders from the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored senior leagues further extended their lead at the top, following another gritty victory. 

Whistlers B's lead has extended to 3 points following their hard fought 6-4 win over 4th placed side Lions C. There have been numerous occasions where the leaders have needed to fight-back to obtain their victories and results and none more so than last week when they came back from 5-3 down to draw with title rivals Lions B. This fixture was no different as they needed to come back from 4-3 down to win the final 3 encounters to make sure of the narrow 6-4 win. The Lions side looked to be on the cusp of getting something from the fixture when Andy Gill led Ryan Gilson 2-0 in the pivotal 8th rubber and he also held a number of match points in a lengthy 3rd end which Gilson managed to pinch 16-14. The younger of the left-handers then held his nerve well to win the remaining 2 ends and this include a wicked backhand stroke around the net during the early stages of the decider. The next match was another crucial tie as it pitted the 2 undefeated players from the fixture against each other, Lawrence Stacey and Paul Hainsworth. The Lions player came out of the blocks fast and comfortably won the opener, before Stacey cruised through the next 2 ends. Hainsworth edged a tight 4th end, but as Stacey had done against Dan Collenette the previous week, he held his nerve and edged the final end by a narrow 2 point margin, 11-9 the score in this one. The final match of the night saw Matthew Casey overcome Corey Brouard in 4 sets to complete the job, but he too needed to stave off a brave effort, as Brouard had led the majority of the 4th set before going down 11-9. Earlier in the fixture Stacey had won his other matches against Brouard and Gill in 4 and straight sets respectively. Casey won another important 5 set clash for the leaders against Gill, holding his nerve well in the final end after Gill had forced it from a 2-0 deficit. For the Lions side Hainsworth defeated both Gilson and Casey in singles action and also combined well with Brouard to overcome Stacey and Gilson over 4 sets in the doubles clash. Brouard added a singles win of his own over Gilson in 5 sets.

2nd placed side Lions B slipped to a 5-5 draw with 3rd placed side Lions A this week. For the B side, Phil Ogier and Dan Collenette were each on hand to record singles wins over Ryan Bichard and Jamie Ferbrache. The duo narrowly missed out during the doubles rubber against Ben Foss and Bichard in 5 sets, 11-9 in the decider. Andre De Carteret picked up the final win for the B side due to his excellent 5 set win over Febrache, which came from him trailing 2-0. Foss was unbeaten for the A side in singles action, dropping just the single end to Ogier in the process. Bichard picked up the other win over De Carteret in straight sets and narrowly lost to Collenette 12-10 in the deciding end of their match. 

Bottom placed side Whistlers A earned their first victory of the season over 5th placed side Whistlers C 6-4. A key factor in this result was Alice Loveridge, who made her first league appearance since March 2016 with great success. The reserve managed to win all of her singles matches and this included a superb 4 set win over Green Trophy regular Joshua Stacey in 4 sets. Her other wins came against Mark Pipet and Charlotte Casey in straight sets. Dawn Morgan added a straight sets win over Casey, whilst Ellis Tomlin held his nerve in the final match of the night to overcome Pipet in 4 sets. The 6th and final win came during Morgan and Tomlin's 4 set doubles win against Stacey and Casey. For the beaten side, Stacey defeated Morgan and Tomlin, whilst Pipet overcame Morgan in straight sets. Casey earned herself an impressive 5 set win over Tomlin in the other match.
