Senior League 2019-20 Week 16

Division 1

Whistlers B held on to top spot in the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored Senior Leagues this week, with Lions A hot on their heels following a victory over defending champions Whistlers A.

The league leaders were comfortable 7-3 winners over 5th placed Lions C this week in a fixture which saw Joshua Stacey continue his strong recent run of form. The recently crowned Open CI Top 12 champion made it 15 consecutive Division 1 singles wins on the night and this included a strong 4 set win over Paul Hainsworth, who himself had been on a winning streak of 13 wins. Stacey's other wins came over Andy Gill in 4 sets and Charlotte Casey in straight sets. Mark Pipet and Ellis Tomlin were also in good form and each earned wins over Gill and Casey to make sure of the victory. Hainsworth edged through tight straight set wins against Pipet and Tomlin for his side and also combined well with Gill to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the doubles rubber against Stacey and Tomlin during a 5 set triumph.

Lions A remain just 2 points behind the leaders following a comfortable 7-3 win over defending champions Whistlers A. The Lions side took full advantage of the absence of the Whistlers side's best player Lawrence Stacey on the night. Ben Foss was in good form for the victors due to his singles wins over Matthew Casey, Ryan Gilson and reserve Martin Sarre. Ryan Bichard added wins over Gilson and Sarre, whilst Ferbrache overcame Gilson in 4 sets. Foss and Bichard won the doubles rubber against Casey and Gilson in 5 sets. Casey played well for his defeated side due to his straight sets wins over Ferbrache and Bichard, whilst Sarre added an excellent 5 set win over Ferbrache.

Lions B moved into 4th place following a strong 8-2 win over Lions D. Phil Ogier was in fine form for his side and comfortably defeated Liam Robilliard, Sam Clark and reserve Steve Ozanne without dropping a leg. Dan Collenette and Andre De Carteret each added further wins over Clark and Ozanne, with De Carteret coming back from 2-0 down to beat Clark. The doubles was won by Ogier and De Carteret against Robilliard and Clark in straight sets. Robilliard prevented the whitewash due to his 5 set win over Collenette and straight sets win over De Carteret.

Division 2

Lions F remain 2 points clear at the top of the second Division following a 7-3 win over Ravenscroft Panthers A, however Jez Powell lost his 100% singles record during the fixture. Powell was soundly beaten in 4 sets in an excellent performance from Albert Unden, however he managed to defeat Ben Foote and Brandon Ferbrache in straight sets. Andrew Ferbrache proved to be the performer of the night though as he beat Unden, Foote and Ferbrache. Caden Brouard added further wins over Foote and Ferbrache. Unden and Ferbrache earned a nice 5 set doubles win over Ferbrache and Brouard.

Division 3

Lions H are still 5 points clear at the top of the 3rd Division after earning a comfortable 8-2 win over Lions I. Brian Ferbrache and Steve Potter each earned wins over Mike Brehaut, Lynn Finn and Erin Vaudin. Jonah Ingrouille added a further win over Finn and also teamed with Potter to defeat Finn and Brehaut in straight sets in the doubles rubber. Brehaut and Vaudin each picked up consolation 5 set singles wins over Ingrouille.
