Division 1
The 3 leading sides in the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored leagues all recorded victories this week ahead of the big top of the table clash between Whistlers B and Lions A next week.
Whistlers B edged past Lions B 6-4 in a fixture where Phil Ogier was unbeaten for his defeated side. His best win came in the opening match of the night in a match where he trailed CI Top 12 champion Josh Stacey 2-0. He battled back impressively in this encounter to restore parity before closing out the deciding leg 13-11. His other wins came against Mark Pipet in 4 tight sets and Ellis Tomlin in straight sets. Stacey and Pipet each got victories over Dan Collenette and Andre De Carteret, whilst Tomlin picked up an important 4 set win over De Carteret. The doubles rubber was another pivotal game and it was the combination of Stacey and Tomlin that overcame Ogier and Collenette in 4 sets. Collenette picked up a further singles win over Tomlin in 4 sets for the Lions side.
Lions A are 2 points behind ahead of the big match and they eased to a 7-3 win over Lions D this week. Ben Foss, Ryan Bichard and Jamie Ferbrache all picked up wins over Sam Clark and Corey Brouard, whilst Foss and Bichard defeated Liam Robilliard and Clark in straight sets in the doubles. Robilliard was in good form for his side despite the defeat as he picked up a hat-trick of singles wins, including an excellent 4 set win over averages leader Foss.
Whistlers A are only a single point adrift of 2nd position and they overcame Lions C 7-3 this week. Matthew Casey played some of his best table tennis of the season in securing an unbeaten evening of singles action. This started with a straight sets win over sister Charlotte before he overcame reserve Andy Ferbrache in 4 sets. He finished it off in style by overcoming a 2-0 deficit to earn an impressive 5 set win over Paul Hainsworth. Lawrence Stacey and Ryan Gilson each defeated Charlotte and Ferbrache to make sure of the win. Despite the defeat to Casey, Hainsworth picked up a scalp of his own when he edged past Stacey 12-10 in the deciding end of their clash, saving 2 match points from 8-10 in the process. He also defeated Gilson in straight games and teamed with Casey to win the doubles rubber against Gilson and Casey in 4 sets.
Division 2
Lions F slipped off the top of the Division for the first time since 7 November 2019 following a narrow 6-4 defeat at the hands of Whistlers D this week. Martin Sarre, Craig Dunning and Paula Le Ber all earned singles wins over Andy Ferbrache and reserve Jonah Ingrouille to make sure of the win. The most important of this was Le Ber's 5 set win over Ferbrache in a match where she came back from 2-1 down to win. Despite the defeat Jez Powell was unbeaten for his side on the night, dropping just a single end to Dunning in the process. He also teamed with Ferbrache to win the doubles rubber over Sarre and Le Ber alongside Ferbrache.
Division 3
Lions H extended their lead to a hefty 7 points following their 10-0 whitewash of Whistlers F. Brian Ferbrache, Jonah Ingrouille and Steve Potter all picked up wins over Hedley Watson, Shane Cotter and reserve Stuart Sarre. The doubles was won by Potter and Ingrouille over Sarre and Cotter in straight sets. Despite the result, the fixture was well contested as 4 of the matches were only won over the full 5 set distance. Sarre incredibly lost in 5 sets in all 3 of his matches, whilst Watson lost to Ingrouille in 5 sets in the final match of the night.
