Senior League 2019-20 Week 19

Division 2

The Division has been a competitive league, with just the 2 Ravenscroft Panthers sides well adrift from the rest of the pack at the bottom. The top 4 sides have earned favourable results against each other during the course of the season thus far and only 9 points separates these teams.

Whistlers C and Lions F however are the sides joint top as it stands and they have a fairly sizable 5 point lead from Lions E.

The Whistlers side mathematically lead the way due to having a superior games ratio and they further increased this advantage thanks to a 9-1 rout of Ravenscroft Panthers A. Kay Chivers and Ben Sharp were each unbeaten on the night owing to singles wins over Steve Martin, Ben Foote and Brandon Ferbrache. Keith Opie added straight sets wins over Foote and Ferbrache, however despite comfortably leading Martin 2-0, the Ravenscroft player battled back superbly to win the remaining 3 tight ends 13-11, 11-9, 11-9 and prevented the whitewash in the process. The doubles rubber was won by Sharp and Opie over Martin and Ferbrache in straight sets.

The Lions side had a much tougher time in their clash with 5th placed side Lions G and edged through 6-4. Jez Powell proved decisive in the result as he picked up singles wins over Luke Le Tissier, Nye Matthew and reserve Terry Trustum. His win against the in-form Le Tissier crucially came in the final match of the night and he needed all of his experience to battle back from 2-1 down to edge the decider 12-10. Caden Brouard also had a good evening of action which saw him defeat Matthew in straight sets and Trustum in 4 sets. He came close to an unbeaten evening, but narrowly fell to Le Tissier in 5 sets. The doubles encounter proved to be another pivotal clash and Powell and Brouard battled past Le Tissier and Matthew in 5 sets. All of the G side picked up handy singles wins over Andy Ferbrache.

Division 3

The only other fixtures this week came in the 3rd Division and it resulted in Lions H maintaining their strong 9 point advantage at the top.

They were comfortable 9-1 victors over St Pauls B this week in an encounter which saw Steve Potter and Brian Ferbrache unbeaten. Each player recorded wins over Derek Carter, Brian Le Cras and Val Guilbert. Reserve Lionel Jones played well in adding 5 set wins over Guilbert and Le Cras, but lost to Carter in straight sets. The doubles match was won by Potter and Ferbrache over Carter and Le Cras in 5 sets.
