Division 2
With no matches in the top flight of the Doric Insurance sponsored senior leagues this week, it was down to the other Divisions to take the spotlight, with a big clash at the top of the Second Division taking centre stage.
Whistlers D remain at the top, but their lead was cut to just a single point following a 5-5 draw with a 3rd placed Lions F side. The draw turned out to be a good result as they trailed 5-3 heading into the final matches of the night. In the end it was Kay Chivers who took victory in the final match and was also the player to contribute most for the league leaders. She had already beaten James Crocker and Jonah Ingrouille in straight sets, before heading into the crucial clash against Caden Brouard. Brouard dropped the opener before storming into a 2-1 lead. Chivers fought back strongly in the 4th and did just enough in the decider to edge it 11-9. Keith Opie added a straight sets win over Ingrouille, whilst Henri Whitehorne recovered from losing the opening set against Ingrouille to crucially win in 4 sets. For the Lions side, Brouard and Crocker each beat Whitehorne and Opie in singles action, whilst they also combined to good effect in the doubles match, where they battled back excellently from 2-0 down to come through 13-11 in the 5th set against Chivers and Opie.
Ravenscroft Panthers D hold a commanding 4 point lead at the top and still have a 100% winning record for the season. This week they had their closest match of the season, as a 7-3 win was obtained over Lions J. The match was also significant in that it saw the clash between the only remaining players with a 100% singles record in the Division, Micah Cohen from Panthers and Steve Potter from Lions. In the end it was Potter that powered through in 4 sets during the final match of the night. Potter had earlier dispatched Shaun Mosley and Steve Martin in straight sets. The Panthers side secured wins in 2 other close 5 setters, to ensure they walked away with their 100% win streak intact. Cohen weathered the storm of a comeback from Mike Brehaut to win in 5, whilst Cohen and Martin needed to fight back from 2-1 down to overcome Potter and Brehaut in the doubles match.
Lions K and Lions M remain locked together on the same points at the top of the 4th Division.
Lions K have a slender advantage when it comes to games ratio and they extended this advantage this week, courtesy of a strong 8-2 win over Whistlers J. Rolands Tracums was the man of the match as he beat Sandra Sebire, Marion Carre and Simon Carter in singles action. Diane Le Page and reserve Rose Powell each added wins over Carre and Carter to secure the victory, whilst Tracums and Le Page combined to beat Sebire and Carre in 4 sets in the doubles match. Sebire earned 2 impressive comeback victories to prevent the whitewash. She first battled back from 2-0 down to beat Powell before recovering from a 2-1 deficit to beat Le Page.
