News - Week Two

In the first division Amlwch A travelled to last season’s runners-up Rhyl A and came away with a 25-17 victory. Paul Collins won his three singles but dropped four games in the process. Eliot Platt took all three Amlwch players to a fifth set decider but only came out on top against Keith Williams. Another five-game battle witnessed David Daniels overcome Ian Ault 11-6 in the decider. 

Rhyl A also won the doubles without dropping a game making themselves favourites to win the Gott and Wynne doubles trophy outright this season. North Wales Police A are second in the table and remain unbeaten following 24-11 win over Trinity ABrian Cooke and Tony Wan won their singles although both were taken to a fifth-game deciders by Stuart DeardenJames Wan chipped in by beating Eddie Chan and Andrew Chamberlain for the loss of only one game. Staurt and Eddie did play an excellent doubles encounter winning in three straight games. 

Llandudno is up to fourth beating Y Morfa A 26-16. Andy Lunt won all his singles matches narrowly seeing off Chris Henderson 16-14 and Andy Horton 11-8 in fifth game deciders. Andy teamed up with Graham Heath in the doubles to win yet another five-game battle. 

Henllan A beat Craig-y-don A 25-18 here Jonny Hughes securing all three singles for the first time in the top-flight. He was pushed all the way by junior Tom Bird but prevailed in a thriller, 12-10 in the fifth. Tom beat Sean Lucas in another five-game tussle. Ross Lander lost out to Sean over five games but teamed up Tom to win the doubles having lost the first two games.

In the second division, Amlwch B are clear at the top winning the island derby 30-4. Andrew Lloyd secured a maximum in the singles and teamed up with Reg John to land in the doubles in three straight games. Emyr Owen representing Amlwch C lost to Ben Sutcliffe over five games and took a game from Reg. Charlie Hadcock extracted one game from Ben Sutcliffe

Police B beat Craig-y-don A 23-18, here Peter Roberts remains unbeaten seeing off John Lovegrove in five and Alan Hopper in four. Stan Wan also beat these opponents although needing all five games to beat Alan but found Rob Stewart too cunning. Nigel McLaughlin chipped in with a fine five-game victory over John Lovegrove. John lost out in his third five-game battle of the night in the doubles with his partner Rob. 

Y Morfa B beat Henllan C 21-15, with Steve Davies winning all three singles beating Ciaran Lucas in five and Josh Parry over four games. Henllan C fielded two players who were promising juniors but had not played competitively for about fifteen years, one who had not picked up a bat in thirteen years. The game was in the balance going into final pairing, but recent training and experience saw David Meadows narrowly beat Ciaran in a tight three-game encounter to secure the match win.
