In the first division, Amlwch A is top the table by sixty-one points and remain unbeaten following a 21-16 victory at Trinity A and a 29-12 win in the island derby. Paul Collins remains unbeaten in the individual standings with a 100% success rate. Against Trinity A Paul dropped only one game this was against Stuart Dearden. The game of the evening witnessed Stuart Dearden beating Keith Williams 12-10 in the fifth. John Chan beat Isaac Gee in three straight games and Keith Williams over four games. The doubles, another five-game battle with John Chan and Stuart Dearden beating Paul Collins and Issac Gee 11-1 in the deciding game.
In the island derby, Reg John representing Amlwch B was involved in four five-game thrillers. He beat Issac Gee 12-10 in the decider but lost out by the same score line to Keith Williams. He went down 6-11 both against Paul and in the doubles with his partner Ben Sutcliffe. The fifth five -game encounter resulted in Isaac Gee beating Alfred Mathew 11-8 in the decider.
Second placed Police A beat Rhyl B 27-9, Tony Wan was the ‘man of the match’ dropping only one game in the singles to Ben Moore. Ben Moore was playing for the first time in the league since his junior days and did well to beat Brian Cooke in three straight games. Roger Lee also won his singles matches but was taken to a fifth game decider by Fred Moore.
Amlwch B move up to third following a 24-16 victory over Llandudno. Steve Nicholls representing Llandudno won all his singles beating Ben Sutcliffe over five games and Reg John and Andrew Lloyd over four. Graham Heath also got the better of Ben Sutcliffe 12-10 in the fifth game decider. Andrew Lloyd did come out the right side of a five-game battle overcoming Andy Lunt 11-9 in the fifth.
In the second division, Craig-y Don A is forty points clear at the top following a 29-13 win at the expense of third placed Trinity B. Ross Lander and Ady Waugh both won their singles, Ross dropped two games to Rob Stewart and Ady dropped two to both John Lovegrove and Andrew Chamberlain and one to Rob. Another five-game tussle went the way of Dave Foster at the expense of Andrew Chamberlain.
Trinity C is up to fourth after a 22-13 victory over Amlwch C. However, it was Charlie Hadcock who proved to be the strongest player on the night winning his singles, the closest a 11-7 win in the fifth against Kevin Hu. Gavin Callow won a game on debut for Trinity C beating Andrew Hughes over four games.
Henllan B beat Craig-y-don B 24-11 with Melvyn Booker securing a maximum. In a ladies xmas special Chris Watkins beat Bridget Prescott 12-10 in the fifth. But the highlight; that I was pleased to have witnessed, was a xmas miracle. Chris Watkins had recovered from two games down to be in 4-1 up in the decider when Dave Strange pulled something below his knee and looked set to concede the match. He hobbled down the other end and in pain soon found himself 2-6 down. Chris kept switching the ball from left to right, but Dave hopped on. At match point 9-10 there was a crazy forty shot point that Dave won bringing the game to deuce from which he then went went on to win 12-10. Dave had to forfeit his final match with Peter Barrow and we all hope it’s nothing too serious.
Y Morfa B squeezed past Craig-y-don C 21-20, with David Meadows winning his singles and dropping only one game to both David Tyrrell and Bill Wells. The doubles, a 3-2 win for Craig-y-don C as was David Roe against Mike Trbojevic. Steven Daviesin beating Bill Wells 12-10 in the fifth a ensured a Y Morfa B victory.
