News - Week Nine

In the first division, the table has a more familiar look following two wins by Amlwch A that sees them thirty-one points of their nearest pursuers with a game in hand. On Monday Amlwch A beat Henllan A 26-10. Paul Hulme beat Isaac Gee without ever being comfortable on receiving his serves. Henllan A also won the doubles thanks to Josh Parry and Jonny Hughes. The game of night witnessed Paul Hulme recover from a 0-11 drubbing in the opening game to take the match to a fifth game decider against Paul Collins before losing out. On Tuesday Amlwch A beat second place Police A 27-6. Here both Paul Collins and Keith Williams each secured a maximum. Roger Lee beat Isaac Gee in three straight games and Brian Cooke lost to Isaac in a five-game thriller.

Third place Trinity A narrowly beat fifth placed Rhyl A 19-16. In the closest game here Tom Bird representing Rhyl A overcameStuart Dearden 11-9 in the fifth. Tom Bird and John Hughes teamed up in doubles to beat John Chan and Stuart Dearden in a five-game thriller, but it was not enough to win the match on the night.

Fourth placed Amlwch B have a couple of games in hand over the teams just above them and this week they beat Y Morfa A 27-12. Andrew Lloyd dropped just one game in his singles matches to Chris HendersonBen Sutcliiffe also won his singles beating Rob Stanway and Jason Coe over four games and Chris Henderson in five. Christian Delve lost out in a five-game match on debut against Rob Stanway.

Y Morfa A recorded their first win of the season by beating Rhyl B 24-12. Chris Henderson won all his singles dropping only a game each to Fred Moore and Barry Russ. David Meadows stepped up into the first division and won all his singles. He beat Chris Markey and Fred Moore over four games and Barry Russ over five.  Llandudno also recorded their first win of the season, 28-9 again against bottom of the table Rhyl B. Andy Lunt won his three singles dropping just one game to Fred Moore. Steve Nicholls also won his three but had to come from two games down to overcome Fred Moore and won another five-game encounter against Chris Markey. Fred Moore supplied the only Rhyl B victory on the night beating Graham Heath over four games.

 In the second division third placed Trinity C lost 15-23 to seventh placed Rhyl C.  Steve Lowe won the battle of the two strongest players on show beating Ellis Hughes 11-5 in the fifth game decider. Other five-game matches witnessed Trinity C winning the doubles and Marcus Wilton-Jones beating Kate Lai 11-8 in the fifth. 

Henllan B could again only field two players in an away match, this week against Craig-y-don C. However, Iain McGillivray and recently transferred Melyyn Booker did not drop a game on the night to run out 21-9 winners.

Amlwch C maintained eighth place following a narrow 18-16 victory over ninth placed Craig-y-Don B. Charlie Hadcock was man of the match beating both Ged Haresnape and Bridget Prescott in three straight games, Bob Hughes in a five-game thriller before pairing up with Abbas Walji to win the doubles in another five-game affair. Abbas on debut recorded a straight games victory at the expense of Bridget Prescott.
