News - 3rd Week March

In the first division Amlwch A beat Rhyl B 30-3 to open a gap of sixty-three points at the top of the table. Keith Williams secured a maximum and John Hughes was responsible for the three Rhyl B points, taking a game from Paul Collins and two from Ian Ault.

Rhyl A lie second despite a 17-19 reversal at Llandudno and are the only team with a mathematical chance of catching Amlwch AAndy Lunt proved player of the tie beating both David Daniels and Barry Russ in three straight games before losing out over five games to Glen Phoenix. Other key encounters included Steve Nicholls overcoming Glen Phoenix dropping only one game and Graham Heath beating Barry Russ 3-1 in a tie with three close games.

Trinity A is up to fourth following a 21-14 win at the expense of Craig-y-don ATom Bird extracted a game from John Chan and two from Stuart Dearden. Ross Lander took a game from Stuart Dearden and Ady Waugh, Ross and Tom all beatEddie Chan without dropping a game, but it was not enough.

Y Morfa A beat Henllan A 20-18. Andy Horton won each of singles which included a tight four game affair against Jonny Hughes and straight sets win over Sean Lucas in the final game of the evening, where he came back from 3-9 down in the second game. Five game thrillers led to narrow wins for Jonny Hughes over Chris Henderson and Sean Lucas over Jason Coe.

In the second division, Police B lie third after a 28-7 win against Y Morfa B. Both Kevin Evans and Stan Wan secured maximums. Both five-game matches went the way of Y Morfa BMike Trbojevic winning 13-11 in the decider against Meirion Williams. He then teamed up with Steven Davies to narrowly beat Meirion Willams and Kevin Evans in the doubles.

Henlan B lie in fourth but have played less than their rivals for the runners-up birth. This week they beat Amlwch C 30-3. Don Grigg secured his first maximum of the season. Charlie Hadcock gained three points for the islanders. He lost out 13-15 to Harold Furber in the fifth game decider and he also took a game from Ian MacGillivray.

Henllan C could field only two players but were able to beat Craig-y-don B 20-16. Josh Parry secured a maximum and teamed up with Chris Watkins to win the doubles 3-1. Chris Watkins was involved in some terrific battles beating Bob Hughes in four, Keith Potter in five before losing out in another five-game match to David Roe.
