NEWS - 4th Week March 2023

In the Handicap Cup Quarterfinals, the tightest pairing involved a clash with the runaway leaders of the second division Amlwch B against current bottom of the first division Craig-y-don A. The second division outfit were tasked with restricting their opponents to an average of 32 points per game. Tom Bird beat both Reg John and Ben Sutcliffe before losing out to 36-40 to Andy Lloyd. Going onto the deciding game Amwlch B trailed by thirteen points, Reg John secured a semi-final for the islanders by beating Ged Haresnape 40-12 in the final match.

In an all first division clash Police A had to restrict Llandudno to an average of 35 points per game. Brian Cooke won all his singles and teamed up with Roger Lee to win the doubles. However, decisive wins by both Andy Lunt over James Wan 40-24 and Steve Nicholls 40-25 over Roger Lee helped to secure an overall 33-point win by Llandudno.

Henllan A beat Police B 453-406 with a game to spare. Paul Hulme and Melvyn Booker won all four of their games including the doubles. Melvyn had some very close wins, 40-39 and 40-38 against Stan Wan and Kevin Evans respectively.

Craig-y-don B faced a strong Trinity A side that included Stuart Dearden and Abhishek Bathula and required an average of 18 points per game. Abhishek was the only Trinity A player to keep their opponent below this target in his two singles matches. Bob Hughes beat Eddie Chan 40-24 to help Craig-y-don B progress to the semi-final with two games to spare.

In the first division, Rhyl A have conceded their four outstanding fixtures having at most one player able to play. This confirms Amlwch A as champions of the first division and the runners up spot is now a contest between Trinity A and Police A.

In the second division, Amlwch B remain unbeaten accounting for Rhyl C 28-9. Steve Lowe representing Rhyl C played well all evening, beating the previously unbeaten Reg John 11-8 in a fifth game decider. He followed this up with a 12-10 victory in the fifth against Ben Sutcliffe. He then narrowly failed to beat Andy Lloyd going down 6-11 in yet another five-game epic.
