News - Jan-Feb League Highlights

Below are brief observations on eight close league games that were played in the last two months that have not had a match report.

In the first division, a 17-17 draw was played out between Craig-y-Don A and Police ATom Bird won two of his singles and went down over five games to Brian Cooke. Brian in turn won his other two singles matches without dropping a game. Ady Waugh edged past James Wan 11-9 in the fifth and then teamed up with Tom in doubles to win 3-0 and secure the draw.

Llandudno beat Henllan A 22-21 in a tight match in which four games were decided in a fifth game with a further five decided over four games. Graham Heath was the difference winning each of his encounters. Melvyn Booker played well for Henllan A beating both Andy Lunt and Steve Nicholls before teaming up with Jonny Hughes to land the doubles, but it was not enough.

Llandudno were involved another close match loosing out to Rhyl B 19-20. Once again Llandudno had the strongest player on the night, on this is occasion it was captain Steve Nicholls who won each of his singles matches. The two closest games both involved Rob Walker who beat Barry Russ in five but lost out in another decider to John Hughes.

Amlwch A went suffered their first defeat of the season 18-20 to Trinity A. No one player dominated, John Chan beat Paul Collins 11-8 in the fifth and scrapped past Ian Ault 14-12 in the decider. Keith Williams beat John over four games and overcame Ken Connor in three straight but was beaten by the same score line by Stuart DeardenKen Connor beat both Paul Collins and Ian Ault dropping one game in each encounter. John Chan and Stuart Dearden won the doubles without dropping a game to secure the win.

Police A beat Y Morfa A 20-18, Rob Stanway won all his singles games with Stan Wan taking him to a fifth game decider. Stan Wan playing up from the B team beat Jason Coe over four games. The closet game of the night witnessed Jason Coe beat Roger Lee 14-12 in the fifth. Roger Lee went on to beat Andy Horton over four games. Police A secured the match win in the doubles with a 3-0 win by Tony and Roger over Rob and Andy.

In the second division, Y Morfa B and Amlwch C shared the spoils in a twenty-all draw. The strongest player proved to be David Meadows who won three but was taken to a fifth game decider by Charlie HadcockSteven Davies overcame Emyr Owen over five games and Mark Hadcock in three straight. A results score line that was repeated by Charlie Hadcock in beating Steven Davies and Mike Trbojevic. Emyr and Charlie landed the double 3-1 to earn a draw.

Craig-y-Don B beat Trinity B 22-20 despite Rob Stewart winning each of his singles matches. Bob Hughes who had lost out in a fifth game decider to Rob beat John Lovegrove over five games. All the other encounters were decided over four games with Dave Strange win over Ellis Hughes and the doubles victory by Craig-y-don B’s Keith and Bob perhaps being decisive.

Police B beat Rhyl C 21-19 with Kevin Evans winning his singles, although he was taken to a fifth game decider by Peter Higgins.  Peter is clearly a strong addition to Rhyl C because he beat Peter Roberts dropping just the one game. Marcus Wilton-Jones also beat Peter but required a fifth game decider. Marcus beat Alan Lavery again over games but lost the doubles with his partner Peter 1-3 to narrowly loose the match.
