News - League Cup Semi Finals

In a first division league cup semi-final Trinity A booked a passage through to the final with a 7-3 victory over Craig-y-don A. Tom Bird and Ross Lander teamed up to beat Stuart Dearden and John Chan in a five-game thriller in the doubles. They had both previously beaten Eddy Chan and the after six games it was tied up at 3-3 all. However, Trinity A proved too strong in the second half of the evening and did not drop another game.

In the other semi-final Amlwch A beat Henllan A 6-1. In the opening matches Ian Ault and Keith Williams easily overcame Jonny Hughes and Paul HulmeMelvyn Booker took a game from Paul Collins and then Paul Hulme beat Ian Ault 11-8 in the fifth in a high-quality encounter. Normal service resumed with Paul and Keith both winning their next two singles and the doubles without dropping a game to ease into the final.

In a second division league cup semi-final Amlwch B beat Police B 6-3. Kevin Evans was in fine form for Police B he beat Ben Sutcliffe in three straight and Andy Lloyd 3-1 he also teamed up with Peter Roberts to land the doubles 12-10 in the fifth. However, Reg John beat Kevin over four games and Ben Sutcliffe beat Peter Roberts in yet another five-game thriller. Amlwch B dominated the other ties to ease into the cup final.

In the other semi-final Henllan C beat Trinity B 6-2. Rob Stewart and Ellis Hughes both beat Peter Barrow, but this was nullified by Josh Parry beating both John Lovegrove and Rob Stewart over four games. Ciaran Lucas eased past Ellis and with his partner Josh secured a victory in the doubles for the loss of one game to take a 4-2 lead. Josh Parry beat Ellis to expand the lead before the tightest match, this witnessed Ciaran Lucas land the spoils and the semi-final in a tight five-game battle with John Lovegrove.
