News - Week Thirteen

In the first division Rhyl A lie second in the league table following a 22-16 victory over Y Morfa AAndy Horton representing Y Morfa A won each of his singles dropping only two games in the process. Jason Coe beat Chris Markey 11-7 in a fifth game decider. But strong play by Glen Phoenix and David Daniels in both the doubles and their remaining singles ensured that Rhyl A cane out on top. 

Police A remain third but could field only two players and went down 11-25 to Rhyl B. Tony Wan was involved in two five-game thrillers on the night. He lost out to John Hughes 9-11 in the decider having fought back from losing the opening two games. He then teamed up with Stan Wan and again lost out this time 10-12 to John Hughes and Fred Moore.

Llandudno lie fourth after an 18-15 win against Craig-y-don A. Tom Bird was in fine form securing twelve points for Craig-y-Din A with the help of Ady Waugh in the doubles, dropping no games. In the tightest encounter Steve Nicholls overcame Ged Haresnape over five games.

Trinity A is fifth in the table but still have chances of becoming league runners up with Rhyl A missing key players on the run in. This week they beat Henllan A 22-11. John Chan played very well and dropped nothing on the night. The outstanding game witnessed Stuart Dearden beat Paul Hulme 16-14 in the fifth. He was in trouble at 6-8 down in the fourth but turned things around.

In the second division, Amlwch B continue their unbeaten march to the title. This week beating Craig-y-don B 30-1. Keith Potter and David Roe won a game the doubles.

Trinity B lie a clear second having beat Rhyl C 21-13. They have only two games remaining, and it remains to be seen if they have accumulated enough points to remain in the runners-up birth. The player of the night was Steve Lowe representing Rhyl C, he won each of singles dropping one game to Ellis Hughes. He teamed up with Taylor Tabinor in the doubles to win over five games at the expense of Robert Stewart and John Lovegrove.

Third-placed Police B lost out 15-17 to Henllan C. Josh Parry representing Henllan C proved to be the strongest player on the night securing a maximum. He was ably supported by Peter Barrow who beat both Nigel McLaughlin and Alan Lavery in three straight games and by Maria Laffey who took a both game from both Peter Roberts and Nigel.
