News – First three weeks of the 2023/24 season
Division One:
North Wales Police A is top the table after three weeks following a 22-16 victory over Rhyl B and 26-12 win against Y Morfa A,having previously lost 17-24 to Henllan A. Brian Cooke has won all his single encounters except a 3-1 reversal against Paul Hulme. Roger Lee overcame losing all three against Henllan A to lose only to Chris Markey in his next fixture and then won all three against Morfa A. Henllan A lie second having lost out narrowly to Rhyl A 19-21 with the battle for the man of the match went to Tom Bird who beat Josh Parry in a five-game thriller. However, the table will undoubtedly change in the coming weeks as Trinity A blew away the Henllan A challenge 23-11. Here John Chan dropped only one game to Melvyn Booker, a feat repeated by Stuart Dearden dropping his one game to Sean Lucas. This victory leaves Trinity A in fourth place, they had previously lost to third placed Amlwch B despite Stuart Dearden again winning all three, dropping one game to Mark Bryant. Amlwch B remain unbeaten having overcome Llandudno 23-17, Graham Heath and Andy Lunt who had both beaten Andrew Lloyd and Mark Bryant but found Reg John more formidable. Reg came from two down to see off Andy 11-7 in the fifth. Rhyl A is also unbeaten in their one match and are currently in fifth place and champions Amlwch A is yet to play following holiday commitments, injury and an international callup.
Division Two:
Craig-y-don A have made a terrific start, winning all three matches dropping only fourteen games and three sets in the process. Ady Waugh has played in all three matches winning all his singles dropping just two games. Ross Lander has played in two fixtures and has yet to face defeat. Craig-y-don A is twenty-one points clear of the field at this early stage. Second placed Trinity B have only lost out to Craig-y-don A, 9-26 with Rob Stewart beating David Foster in three straight games. Henllan B lie third despite losing to both North Wales Police B18-23 and Trinity B 16-21. Don Grigg won all three singles against the Police A each encounter a five-game thriller. John Lovegrove beat both Iain MacGillivray and Donn Grigg in five game battles. Another unbeaten player is Kevin Evans who has only played against Rhyl C, he beat Steve Lowe over four games. North Wales Police B and Trinity C have both played two fixtures and are in fourth and fifth places respectively and both remain unbeaten. Ellis Hughes represented Trinity C in both of their matches and has won all his singles dropping only four games, one each against Ged Haresnape, Bill Wells, Steven Davies and Dave Meadows.
