In the Handicap Cup semi-final, Amlwch B were set the task of restricting Trinity C below an average of twenty-nine points per game. Both Andy Hughes and Ellis Hughes were able to beat Karen Ault by 39 and 35 points respectively. Ellis also only narrowly lost Ben Sutcliffe 39-40. The doubles pairings of Ellis and Kate Hai gained a few more valuable pints in making 33 in the doubles. In a tight match Trinity C won by five points 514-509 to book a final against Llandudno.
In the President’s Trophy semi-final, Police B were set the task of restricting Henllan B below an average of 34 points per game. Henllan B only met this target twice, Chirs Watkins beat Nigel McLaughlin 40-33 and she teamed up with Iain McGillivray to land the doubles 40-39. However, Stan Wan and Peter Roberts dropped only a total of 77 and 75 points respectively in the tie to ensure that Police B won 575-531 to set up a final against Henllan A.
In the first division, Amlwch A is crowned as champions despite not winning a league match for the first time this season, Police A who currently lie second managed to extract a 20-20 draw from the multiple champions. Mark Pugh representing Police A was ‘man of the match’ dropping only one game to Keith Williams. Mark teamed up with Roger Lee to win a five-game doubles encounter. Brian Cooke lost two epic five game matches to Ian Ault and Isaac Gee. Roger Lee however got the better of Isaac in yet another five-game tussle. Paul Collins who did not play in this match lands the individual honours with a hundred percent record.
Rhyl A move up to third and require only six points in their final game to clinch runners-up spot following a 26-11 victory against Trinity A. John Chan representing Trinity A was ‘man of the match’ beating Tom Bird and John Hughes in a pair of five game thrillers and beating David Daniels over four games. John Chan currently lies second in the individual standings having won 24 of his 27 encounters. John Hughes beat Stuart Dearden in another five-game match. Captain David Daniels and Tom Bird both beat Stuart Dearden in three straight games.
Seventh placed Llandudno beat eighth placed Rhyl B 19-14. Ben Moore representing Rhyl B secured his fifth man of the match accolade, dropping just one game on the night to Andy Lunt. Fred Moore took a game from both Steve Nicholls and Graham Heath, and he teamed up with Ben Moore to land the doubles in three straight games. However, Llandudno won five encounters in three straight games with Steve Lowe playing up as a reserve for Rhyl B unable to secure a game.
In the second division, Craig-y-Don A is crowned as champions following a 27-7 over nearest rivals Police B, who is also confirmed as runners-up irrespective of the result of the outstanding clash between the top two. Ross Lander dropped just one game in the match to Stan Wan, Dave Foster dropped two games in a five-game thriller against Nigel McLaughlin. Nigel produced the only win on the night for Police B beating Ady Waugh in three straight games.
Friday witnessed the reverse fixture and the third match for Police B in the week. Police B put in an improved performance in a 16-22 loss. Peter Roberts beat Ross Lander in an epic five -game encounter, the only two singles games he dropped on the night. Despite this defeat, Ross Lander secures the individual honours with 95.8%, only two losses during the league season. Peter Roberts teamed up Nigel McLaughlin in the doubles to secure another five-game victory. Although Craig-y-Don A lost the doubles here allowing Police B to join them on fifteen wins, Craig-y-Don A secure the divisional double title having won five more sets. A third five-game battle resulted in Ady Waugh beating Stan Wan. Craig-y-Don A remained unbeaten throughout their league campaign and this final encounter cemented a sixty-tree point gap to second placed Police B. Craig-y-Don A now must focus on a league and cup double when they face Trinity C in the final on Monday.
Trinity C secured derby bragging rights and third position in the second division by beating Trinity B 23-16; who finish fourth in the division. Ellis Hughes was the strongest player winning all his singles, dropping one game to Rob Stewart. Andrew Hughes also representing Trinity B won his singles dropping a game to Andrew Chamberlain and coming from two down to beat Rob Stewart 11-5 in the decider. Two other five game affairs gave some compensation for Rob Stewart, he beat Kevin Hu and teamed up with Andrew Chamberlain to edge the doubles 13-11 in a fifth game decider.
Henllan B overcame Craig-y-Don C 23-17 to finish fifth in division two. Iain MacGillivray won his singles but had to came from two-one down to beat David Roe. Chris Watkins lost to Bill Wells from two-one up but beat David Roe in three straight games. Einir Wyn Coates fought back from two-one down to beat Simon Harris in a tight five game pairing. The doubles also went to fifth game decider but the Henllan B pairing of Chris Watkins and Iain MacGillivray prevailed 11-7 in the decider.
Eighth placed Rhyl C closed the gap to twenty-three points to sixth placed Y Morfa B with a game in hand following A 22-15 victory. Dave Meadows representing Y Morfa B was the ‘man of the match’ beating William Lin over five games and Steve Lowe in four games. However, victories by both Taylor Tabner and Steve Lowe over Steven Davies and George Wooley secured the Rhyl C victory.
Seventh placed Amlwch C beat ninth placed Craig-y-Don B 22-14, with Emyr Owen given the man of the match despite losing to Ged Haresnape over four games. The game of the night witnessed Charlie Hadcock beating Ged Haresnape 11-9 in the fifth game decider. Other fine performance included a three straight game win by Bob Hughes at the expense of Charlie Hadcock and Mark Hadcock beating Bob Hughes over four games. The doubles were won by the Islanders pairing of Emyr Owen and Charlie Hadcock three games to one to secure the victory.
