In division one Trinity A maintain their position at the top of the table nearing the end of 2024, this week beating Police A 26-11. Abhishek Bathula ends the year at the top of the individual standings and remains unbeaten although he to come back from two sets down to beat Mark Pugh. Mark beat both Ben Moore and John Chan, John took Mark to a fifth game decider. John Chan and Ben Moore both beat Roger Lee in three straight sets and Brian Cook over four sets.
The points gap back to rivals Amlwch A is maintained following a 26-10 win over bottom of the table Y Morfa. Keith Williams won each of his singles and teamed up with Issac Gee to win the doubles. Andy Horton took Keith to a fifth game decider and beat Issac 12-10 and in a five-set thriller Andy beat second division Amlwch C captain Emyr Owen. Emyr overcame Chris Henderson in another five-set encounter and beat Mike Trbojevic.
Third placed Llandudno were involved in two close matches this week. On Tuesday they lost 16-19 to Amlwch B where Hanniel Chung was ‘man of the match’ achieving a maximum. In the game of this tie Andrew Lloyd beat Graham Heath 11-6 in a fifth set decider. Abbas Walji playing up a division extracted a game from Andy Lunt. On Thursday Llandudno lost another tight fixture losing 20-23 to fourth place Henllan A. On this occasion Jonny Hughes was ‘man of the match’, his closet encounter witnessed him coming from behind in the fifth set decider to beat Andy Lunt. This was one of five five-set encounters during the evening. Paul Hulme lost to Steve Nicholls in one but beat Andy Lunt in another. All of Andy’s matches were five setters he won the closest edging out Melvyn Booker 14-12 in the decider. The doubles was yet another exciting five setter with Llandudno prevailing, but it was not enough to win the match.
In division two Craig-y-Don A have a thirty-one-point lead going into the new year following a 30-4 victory over two-man Henllan B. Dave Foster and Telor Jones both secured maximums and Telor remains unbeaten at the top of the individual standings. The best match witnessed Ady Waugh fight back from two sets down to beat Iain MacGillivray 11-8 in the fifth. Ady teamed up with Dave and they came back from two sets down to beat Iain and Don Grigg in the doubles.
Second placed Trinity C beat Police B 22-10, with both Ellis Hughes and Andrew Hughes both securing maximums. Kevin Hulost to Nigel McLaughlin in three straight sets and Peter Roberts over four, but beat Stan Wan in another four-set encounter.
Amlwch C beat Craig-y-Don C 29-5 with Peter Higgins securing a maximum. The most resistance was provided by Bill Wells who took a game from Emyr Owen and beat Gavin Calllow in a five-set tussle.
