In division one Amlwch A became the first team this season to beat Trinity A and are now the only unbeaten team in the division. This was despite Abhishek Bathula representing Trinity A winning all his singles and teaming up with Stuart Dearden to win a thrilling doubles encounter over five sets. Another exciting five-set battle witnessed Paul Collins overcome Stauart Dearden 13-11 in the decider. Keith Williams and Isaac Gee also both beat Stuart Dearden and Eddie Chan to ensure Amlwch A won the fixture 21-17.
Henllan A lie third in the table following a 26-15 win over Police A. Jonny Hughes won each of his singles beating both Tony Wan and Roger Lee over four sets and James Wan in a five-set tussle. Other five set thrillers produced wins for Mel Booker over Roger Lee and the Henllan A doubles pair Jonny and Melvyn. Paul Hulme, Melvyn Booker and Tony Wan all recorded two singles wins on the night.
Fourth placed Rhyl A beat fifth placed Amlwch B 20-18. Tom Bird was the ‘man of the match’ winning each of his singles including a 11-9 victory in a fifth set decider at the expense of Hanniel Chung. Other highlights included Ross Lander beating Mark Bryant 11-7 in another five-set thriller. Captain David Daniels beat both Mary Bryant and Alfred Mathew to help his team over the line
In a battle between two teams that had yet to open their accounts Llandudno ran out emphatic 29-6 winners over Y Morfa. Graham Heath secured a maximum and Andy Lunt also won his singles although was taken to a fifth set decider by Mike Trbojevic. Another tight match witnessed Andy Horton beating Steve Nicholls over five sets.
In division two Craig-y-Don A extended their winning run, this week beating fourth placed Rhyl B 24-15. Telor Jones tops the individual standings, and he is yet to lose in singles this season. He was taken to a fifth set decider by Fred Moore but prevailed 11-7. Fred Moore was also beaten in another five-set match having taken a two-set lead but lost out to Ady Waugh. Ady Waugh prevailed in another five-set encounter beating Chris Markey but was beaten in three straight sets by Jian Hong Lin.
Trinity C remain in a clear second following a 24-16 victory over Amlwch C. Peter Higgins representing Amlwch C won two five set matches beating Kate Lai and teaming up with Emyr Owen to land the doubles. Peter was then taken to a third five-set game before having to concede. With Peter unable to play his final opponent Ellis Hughes secured yet another maximum. Gavin Callowbeat Kate Lai 3-1 but she beat Emyr Owen by the same scoreline.
Police B won a close encounter against Henllan B 21-17, to remain in third position in the table. Don Grigg beat Nigel Laughlinover five sets, but he lost in another thrilling five set match 12-14 in the decider to Andy Chambers who was playing his first match for Police B. Following two straight wins by Iain McGillivray and one each from Andy Chambers and Peter Roberts the match was all tied at fifteen all with two games remaining. Nigel McLaughlin beat Chris Watkins in three straight leaving Iain McGillivray the task of beating Peter Roberts in three straight sets to secure a draw for Henllan B. Iain made a great start by winning the first two sets before Peter forehand ensured he secured a man of the match performance winning a five-set encounter.
