News - Week Eighteen

Next week commencing Monday 19th February there are no scheduled fixtures only an opportunity for teams to catch up/get ahead if you have not already done so try to rearrange a match next week.

In the league cup division one semi-final Amlwch A beat Trinity A 5-2 to secure a berth in the final. Trinity A started strongly with Staurt Dearden beating Paul Collins dropping only one game. Keith Williams then won two five game thrillers beating Stuart Dearden 12-10 and John Chan 11-4 in deciding games. Trinity A second point was secured by John Chan who beat Ian Ault in three straight games. Keith then won his third singles match beating Eddy Chan in three straight games, a feat that was repeated by both Iain Ault and Paul Collins

In the Handicap Cup round of 16, Llandudno had to restrict Y Morfa B below thirty-point average per game. Dave Meadows and Mike Trbojevic achieved thirty-five points in the doubles. Dave Meadows then produced a fine 40-36 over Rob Walker. But in the other eight singles Llandudno showed their division one superiority to win by sixty-four points to progress to the quarterfinals.

In the first Division, Amlwch B are up to second despite losing 19-24 to Henllan A. Unfortunately, Reg John was unwell and forfeited his games following a couple of knock ups spaced throughout the evening. Andy Lloyd won all his singles beating both Paul Hulme and Jonny Hughes in five game encounters. Alfred Mathew’s games were all five-game affairs, he lost to Sean Lucasbut beat Paul Hulme 12-10 and Jonny Hughes 16-14 in deciding games. Henllan A won the doubles in another five-game battle. 

Rhyl A is up to fourth following a 20-15 win against Rhyl BDavid Daniels won his singles dropping a game to Ben Moore and coming from two down to beat Fred Moore over five games. Ben Moore representing Rhyl B played well to beat both Tom Bird and John Hughes without dropping a game. Ben then teamed up with his father to prevail in the doubles,11-9 in the fifth game. Fred Moore beat John Hughes in three straight games, but that feat was repeated by Tom Bird against both Fred and Barrie Russ to ensure a Rhyl A victory. 

In the second division, unbeaten Police B move into second following a 28-10 win over Trinity CStan Wan was ‘man of the match’ dropping only one game to Ellis HughesPeter Roberts was taken. to a fifth game by Andrew Hughes before winning out. Medwyn Williams came from two games down to beat Andrew Hughes 11-6 in the decider.

Trinity B move into third winning two reported games this week. They beat Y Morfa B 24-16, despite Dave Meadows representing Y Morfa B winning all his singles. Dave dropped a game to Andy Chamberlain and two to Rob StewartZac O’Hara had a fantastic debut for Trinity B beating George Woolley over four games and coming from two down to beat Mike Trbojevic 11-4 in the fifth. Previously they scrapped past Rhyl C 20-19, again with an opposing player winning all three singles. On this occasion it was Steve Lowe representing Rhyl C, who dropped a game to each of the Trinity B players. Taylor Tabinor representing Rhyl C beat Rob Stewart in three straight, Andrew Chamerlain from two games down before losing to John Lovegrove in fiveThe three straight victory in the doubles sealed the win for Trinity B.

In a Craig-y-Don derby it was Craig y Don B that scrapped home 18-16 to gain bragging rights over Craig-y-don CBob Hughesmade the difference landing a maximum for Craig-y-don BDavid Tyrrell and David Roe both beat Ged Haresnape and Bridget Prescott. Further the Craig-y-don C pairing of Steve Albinson and David Roe landed the doubles in the closest encounter 12-10 in the fifth, but it was not enough.
