This week it was turn of the divisional cups and it was pleasing that all the ties were resolved, and we can look forward to the semi-finals on or before the first full week in March.
In the League Cup First Division, the closet game witnessed Amlwch A beat Rhyl B 5-4. Ben Moore representing Rhyl B continues to improve, he beat both Keith Williams and Isaac Gee over five games and Ian Ault over four games. Fred Moore also excelled beating Isaac Gee 12-10 in a fifth game decider, but it was not enough to secure a semi-final place.
Trinity A beat Police A 7-2 to ensure a semi-final home tie against Amlwch A. John Chan dropped just one game in the tie to Roger Lee. Stuart Dearden also won his three singles, coming from two down against Tony Wan and dropping a game to Roger Lee.
Rhyl B secured a home semi-final following a 5-2 win over Llandudno. Tom Bird won both games he played. John Hughes won two from three, losing a five-game thriller to Steve Nicholls. Dave Daniels lost to in three straight to Andy Lunt but prevailed 12-10 in a fifth game decider against Steve Nicholls.
Amlwch B beat Henllan A 6-1, in a match with four five-game encounters. Alfred Matthew was successful over five games in all his encounters, beating Paul Hulme, Sean Lucas and Jonny Hughes. Sean Lucas beat Andrew Lloyd over five games, but Reg John dropped no games in his two matches.
In the League Cup Second Division, a two-man Y Morfa B put a good performance winning three games against Trinity C. Dave Meadows won both matches that he played being both Andy Hughes and Kate Lai. Mike Trbojevic also beat Kate, but with Y Morfa given a three-game start and Ellis Hughes winning both his games ensured progress in the cup. In the semi final they will play Trinity B who progressed when Amlwch C forfeited.
Craig-y-don A beat Craig-y-don B 8-1 to secure a home tie in their semi-final. Telor Jones secured the Craig-y-don C point beating Keith Potter over five games, having lost the first two. In two further five-game encounters Ady Waugh beat Telor Jones and Keith Potter overcame Ged Haresnape.
Police B will be away to Craig-y-don A in the semi-final following a 7-2 win over Henllan B. Nigel McLaughlin beat Melvyn Booker, Iain McGillivray and Peter Barrow each in four game encounters. Stan Wan chipped in with two wins but lost to Iain McGillivray. Peter Roberts beat both Iain and Peter to ensure a comfortable victory.
In the second division, Craig-y-Don A stretched their unbeaten run to elven games and are fifty-one points clear at the top of the table following a 23-11 win over Amlwch C. However, the ‘man of the match’ was Charlie Hadcock representing Amlwch C he won all his singles. He became the first player to beat Ross Lander coming from 3-11, 4-11 and survived the close fourth game 15-13 to win in a fifth game decider. Charlie also overcame Dave Foster, on this occasion winning the first two before needing to go and a decider in which he scrapped home 15-13.
