News - first three weeks

Division One:

After three weeks Rhyl A top the table having played three matches, they beat both Henllan A 30-4 and Rhyl A 27-10 but lost out to Trinity A 13-26. In the Henllan A encounter the most resistance was provided by Paul Hulme who lost 9-11 in a fifth game decider to David DanielsGraham Heath representing Llandudno lost two five-game thrillers to both Tom Bird and Ross Lander, man of the match was Dave Daniels who secured a maximum. However, Trinity A have played two games and remain unbeaten, against Rhyl A, Tom Bird beat Stuart Dearden but found both John Chan and Abhishek Bathula too strong losing 1-3 and 2-3. The other five-game encounter here witnessed Stuart Dearden beat Ross LanderTrinity A also beat Police A 27-3 with Stuart, Abhishek and John all securing maximums. The Police A points were earned in a doubles victory. 

Trinity A have the same points total as the also unbeaten Amlwch B who beat Henllan A 28-12 and Llandudno 25-16. The star player is the unbeaten Hanniel Chung who has only dropped one game in each fixtureClose encounters included Jonny Hughes beating both Andrew Lloyd and Reg John 14-12 in fifth-game deciders. Reg John beat Paul Hulme in another five-game thrillerAgainst Llandudno, Andrew Lloyd beat both Graham Heath and Steve Nicholls over five games but lost out in another five-game thriller against Andy Lunt.

Champions Amlwch A lie second in the table having beat Y Morfa 30-1 and Llandudno 27-10. Paul Collins, Keith Williams and Ian Ault have won all their matches. Issac Gee beat Steve Nicholls and Graham Heath in five-game matches but lost in a fifth game decider to Andy Lunt.

Llandudno lie third in the table having played four games, each resulting in a loss. In their most recent encounter, they went down 18-23 to Police A. Captain Tony Wan won all three of his matches, the closest a five-game affair against Graham Heath. All of Graham’s encounters went to a fifth game decider, but he prevailed against both Roger Lee and Brian Cooke.

Division Two:

After three weeks three teams remain unbeaten, Amlwch C and Craig-y-don A have won two matches and Police B who top the table have won three. In the individual standings both Emyr Owen and Stan Wan are unbeaten having overcome six opponents. 

Trinity C have twice narrowly lost 17-20 to Police B and 18-20 to Craig-y-don A. On both occasions they secured the ‘man of match’ honours, Ellis Hughes beat Peter Roberts, Nigel Mclaughlin and Meirion Williams, while Andy Hughes overcame David Tyrrell, Ady Waugh and Dave Foster.

Other close encounters in the opening weeks include Nigel MacLaughlin who beat both Ged Haresnape and Keith Potter 11-6 in fifth game deciders. Keith Potter beat Peter Roberts 11-9 in the fifth game and David Tyrell got the better of Ellis Hughes 11-8 in another tight five-game encounter. Mark Hadcock beat Bridget Prescott 12-10 in a five-game match but lost out to Keith Potter 11-13 in yet another five-game battle.

All teams have now started their campaigns, in the most recent match Trinity B won a tight encounter against Henllan B 22-18 despite Iain McGillivray winning his singles matches.
