Last season's 2 promoted sides from Div 2 met and inevitably the points were shared. The draw was secured in the Doubles when the Stokes family(Peter and Nicky)  beat the Mortley family(Trevor and Peter) in a 5 leg tussle which summed up the closeness of the match. Earlier Peter Davis had secured a fine treble for Cliffe  supported by a double from Mortley Junior who himself was very close to a maximum just losing out in the 5th to Nicky Stokes. All the Sturdee players beat Trevor Mortley.
