Match Report

These two sides fought out a close final in the inaugural Jim Bradford Trophy last season so another tight contest was expected. However, Boxley ran out comfortable 8-2 winners as Gary Hentschel and Barry Roles went undefeated in singles and the Doubles. Hentschel's play was as sharp as his recent trim with his scalp razor as he unleashed a series of forehand and backhand winners against which the Rainham trio had no answer. He took the Player of the Match without dropping a leg. Roles' treble was his 3rd in consecutive matches. Boxley's 8th point was won by Lyndon Gurr who came back from 2 legs down to beat Tim Davie who went winless for the first time this season. Gurr then tasted the reverse experience when, after taking a 2 leg and 9-5 lead against John Coleman, eventually lost in the 5th after John found some confidence and control. Gurr also lost to happy Fulham fan Mick Hambelton in the opening singles.
