Boxley 1 started the new campaign with a well contested 7-3 victory over Chatham Dorset at their Bluebell Hill venue. Slavi Arnaudov performed well for the visitors,beating Mick Sheppard in his opening encounter and then Gary Hentschel in 5, but just lost out 11-9 to Barry Roles in the final leg. Roles also beat Phil Humphries (who was making a welcome return to competitive table tennis after missing last season) and Jon Jennings, who last season played in Div 2, to complete his hatrick. Hentschel had a busy night going the distance in all his singles but was rewarded with victories over Jon and Phil and then partnered Roles to Doubles' success. Sheppard, who was stepping up from Div 2 to help out the first team, manfully defeated Jennings despite struggling with a painful hip but had to give 2nd best to Phil for Dorset's 3rd point.
