Match Report

A friendly but competitve match to end the season saw the points shared by Boxley 1 and Sturdee 2. A much improved return for Boxley as in the first match back in December Sturdee romped home 9-1. The hosts actually led 5-4 but couldnt complete the win via the Doubles which Sturdee took to secure the draw(their first of the season). Earlier Gary Hentschel and Barry Roles both beat Jas Plaha and Andy Marchant; Hentschel landing some powerful backhands to record his brace in 4 legs each and Roles having to hold off fightbacks from both Sturdee players to get home in the 5th legs. The visitor's 3rd player, Dave Bonner, has been unbeaten in his last 4 matches and looked like recording another treble but Lyndon Gurr, having lost his games with Andy and Jas, produced a brilliant defensive display to defeat him in 4 returning the ball from near and far and reading Dave's attack and clever angles. So Sturdee finish 4th but still have the Jim Bradford Trophy final to play next month; Boxley finish a respectable 6th.
