Match Report
John Clartk reports - Chatham Gannet secured a comprehensive 8 - 2 victory in their re-arranged match against Upnor C at Frindsbury cricket pavilion. Gannet skipper John Clark kicked off with a comfortable victory against Brenda Aherne, but Tony Jarrett restored parity by coming back from the dead to defeat Liu Guo in five. It looked like the game was over in the fourth as Liu reached the edge of victory, but Tony pulled out some excellent tomahawk serves to steal it and maintained the momentum to win the fifth 11 - 5. Lining up third for Gannet was Danyal Asghar and he beat Kathy Hall in four, followed by a five-set epic between Tony and John. The visiting captain rode his luck with a number of nets and edges to steal the tie 11 - 8 in the fifth. Liu then beat Brenda and Danyal defeated Kathy, to open up a 5 - 1 lead before Tony managed to enjoy better luck against Danyal Asghar, winning 11 - 3 in the fifth as he completed his third five-setter of the evening. That was as good as it got for Upnor, although Kathy Hall pushed John hard in a typically close encounter between these two, the latter prevailing - just - 11 - 9 in the fifth. Two more comfortable wins sealed the victory for Gannet who remain in the running for third spot.
