Promoted Howard 2 made a brilliant start to their campaign with an outstanding win over a quality Sturdee 1 side.  Not one player managed a treble but there were plenty of braces,  Wayne Youngs had to show his class to win two fifth leggers, 11,4  in the decider against Roger Morley, and 11,5 in the fifth against Robert Jarozynski. The Sturdee player almost picked up a maximum, but Alex Clarke saved two match points to win 12.10 at the death.  Alex Clarke didn't start the match in the best of form, going down three straight to Ian Parkes, but improved significantly to post a double. Roger Morley did well to take out Tim Vaughan in four and Ian Parkes in three. Robert Jarozynski went down 11,2 in the first leg to Ian Parkes but hit form to win the next three. Roger Morley and Alex Clarke teamed up in the doubles and outgunned Tim Vaughan and Ian Parkes to win in four, to secure an outstanding victory
