Match Report

The new season kicked off in style for Sturdee 2 as they proved too strong for visitor's Boxley 1. Sturdee have an abundance of talent at their disposal with 10 players registered and they fielded the all action trio of Dave Bonner, Andy Marchant and new signing Dave Hopkins. Conversely, Boxley are again managing with just the 3 regular players with call ups from the 2nd team, as was required in this match with Dick Ellis substituting for the holidaying Lyndon Gurr. Bonner and Marchant (who was hopping between tables to also play in a Sittingbourne match) went unbeaten. Gary Hentschel got an early point for Boxley when he beat Hopkins in a close 5 legger but neither Barry Roles or Ellis could add to the score in a sultry Newington Village Hall. A 2nd point slipped through Boxley's  grasp in the Doubles as the new partnership of Bonner/Hopkins came back from a two leg deficit to confirm the 9-1 victory.
